You should have a fuse for your fan located in the fuse panel. if the fuse ist not bad you more than likely have a bad temp sensor at the fan
hope this helps you out

My 2001 mercury sable runs hot (temperature gauge goes high then drops back at half also

Check your coolant level visually by removing the radiator cap (only when it is cold). Also make sure the coolant temperature sensor for the cooling fan is functioning properly. These are set to operate the fan when the engine coolant reaches a predetermined temperature. These go bad in time and need replacing. Sounds as though yours may be working intermittently.

Hi: I read your answer to the problem with the 1999 Mercury Mistique temperature gauge. I'm having a similar problem. My temperature gauge is broken in the cold position. And, as far as I can tell,...

Very correct the ECT is a 2 wire thermistor, when coolant temp increases, the resistance andsignal voltage decrease,If you disconnect the sensor the fan goes on, you just trouble shooted the vehicle cooling fan switch, If anything the signal to the gauge itself may be non-op and not getting to the indicator, try this with vehicle at warm up temperature if you turn the A/C does the fan turn should if it doesnt the power juction box (fuse and relay in engine compartment should be checked, for any opeen fuses, By the way the guage information is from the PCM

Need to drain radiator in 1999 Mercury Sable & add stop leak

There is a drain **** on the driver's side on the bottom of the radiator. It is hard to reach and hard to see. You'll probably need to remove the black cover under the radiator and bumper to get to it.

1993 Mercury Sable has a problem with engine fan not coming on sometimes when the temperature goes up. We have replaced the sensor for temp, water pump, radiator, and relay system($159). All of the above...

clean all connectors and take jumper wires from battery and connect to diconnected fan while moving the wires to determine which wire may be bad. Sensor may be higher temperature trigger or the cars temp sending unit may be misreading..

My Mercury Sable 1996

The radiator cooling fan(s) -- correct?

This sounds like the radiator-fan thermal switch is stuck or the wire going to it is grounded.

To stop it, find the switch (somewhere in/around the radiator) unplug the wire, tape the end of the wire, tuck it away somewhere.

To fix it will probably require a mechanic unless you have the experience.
