83 Z-28 Doors are open but seem to be locked.

Latches on the doors seem to be locked. They will not unlock with key or inside lock/unlock buttons.

  • davidhmoran Apr 21, 2009

I can try your solution, but both doors are open and cannot be closed due to the position of the locking mechanism. Could both doors have been affected at the same time. Is there some way to get the lock portion that you can see on the door to open up so that it will then close over the latch that it locks on when the door is shut? Both doors are open, but neither will shut. I know this situation sounds dumb, but both doors are open and locked. I have tried to unlock with the key, and the lock/unlock buttons on the inside of the car. No success. This problem is driving me nuts.

    Thank you. David Moran

  • davidhmoran Apr 21, 2009

Thank you. I held each habdle open and moved both latches with ease. This sounds like something I should have already know - but didn't. You just ended a great deal of frustration for this old dog.
Once again, thank you. My wife thanks you also.

If you you can get into the car take your door panel off and you should see a little rod that is running from the lock mechanism this is attached by a small plastic clip and a lot of times those clips will fall off you can try to get it to rehook but you will be beter off replacing it with new ones and also while you have the door panel off make sure to lubricate the mechanisms i hope this helps you out

  • aaron johnson Apr 21, 2009

oh iam so sorry i miss read your question it sounds like the part that the door latches to is out of adjustment you can get the latches to releas by holing the door handle in the open position and using you finger you can move the latch to the open position and try shutting the door again and if the latch closes again just do the same thing and reopen them. and adjust the latch and luricate it with some wd-40 again i apolagize you do not need to remove your door panel for this.

Activating Intelligent Access
General Information
You can unlock and lock the vehicle without taking the keys out of your pocket or purse when your intelligent access key is within 3 ft (1 m) of your vehicle. Intelligent access uses a sensor on the back of the door handle for unlocking and a separate sensor on the face of each door handle for locking.
The system does not function if:
  • Your vehicle battery has no charge.
  • The key battery has no charge.
  • The key frequencies are jammed.
Note: The system may not function if the key is close to metal objects or electronic devices, for example keys or a cell phone.
Note: If the system does not function, use the key blade to lock and unlock your vehicle. See Remote Control.
Unlocking Using Intelligent Access
With your intelligent access key within 3 ft (1 m) of your vehicle, touch the unlock sensor on the back of the door handle for a brief period and then pull on the door handle to unlock, being careful to not touch the lock sensor at the same time or pulling the door handle too quickly. The intelligent access system requires a brief delay to authenticate your intelligent access key fob.
Locking Using Intelligent Access
With your intelligent access key within 3 ft (1 m) of your vehicle, touch the outer door handle lock sensor for approximately one second to lock, being careful to not touch the unlock sensor on the back of the door handle at the same time. After locking, you can immediately pull on the door handle to confirm locking occurred without inadvertently unlocking.
Note: Do not use the outside door handle as a roof cargo strap.
At the Electronic Tailgate (If Equipped)
Press the exterior tailgate release button inside of the tailgate handle. The tailgate unlocks and opens. See Electronic Tailgate.
Smart Unlock
This feature helps to prevent you from locking your intelligent access key inside your vehicle's passenger compartment or rear cargo area.
If you leave your key in the ignition, when you open the driver door and lock your vehicle with the power door lock control, the doors lock then unlock.
You can still lock your vehicle with the key in the ignition by:
  • Using the manual lock on the inside of the door.
  • Locking the driver door with a key.
  • Using the keyless entry keypad.
  • Using the lock button on the remote control.
Smart Unlocks for Intelligent Access Keys
This feature helps to prevent you from locking your intelligent access key inside your vehicle's passenger compartment or rear cargo area.
When you lock your vehicle using the power door lock control (with the door open, vehicle in park and ignition off), your vehicle searches for an intelligent access key in the passenger compartment after you close the door. If your vehicle finds a key, all of the doors immediately unlock.
In order to override the smart unlock feature and intentionally lock the intelligent access key inside your vehicle, you can lock your vehicle after all doors are closed by using the keyless entry keypad, pressing the lock button on another intelligent access key or touching the locking area on the handle with another intelligent access key in your hand.
When you open one of the front doors and lock your vehicle using the power door lock control, all doors lock then unlock if the ignition is on.
Autolock
Autolock locks all the doors when:
  • All doors are closed.
  • The ignition is on.
  • You shift into any gear putting your vehicle in motion.
  • Your vehicle reaches a speed greater than 12 mph (20 km/h).
Autolock repeats when:
  • You open then close any door while the ignition is on and your vehicle speed is 9 mph (15 km/h) or lower.
  • Your vehicle reaches a speed greater than 12 mph (20 km/h).
Autounlock
Autounlock unlocks all the doors when:
  • The ignition is on, all the doors are closed, and your vehicle has been moving at a speed greater than 12 mph (20 km/h).
  • Your vehicle comes to a stop and you switch the ignition off or to the accessory position.
  • You open the driver door within 10 minutes of switching the ignition off or to accessory.
Note: The doors do not autounlock if you electronically lock your vehicle after you switch the ignition off and before you open the driver door.
Enabling or Disabling Autounlock
You can enable or disable the autounlock feature in the information display or an authorized dealer can do it for you. See General Information.
Illuminated Entry
The interior lamps and select exterior lamps illuminate when you unlock the doors with the remote entry system.
The illuminated entry system turns off the lights if:
  • The ignition is on.
  • You press the remote control lock button.
  • After 25 seconds of illumination.
The dome lamp does not turn on if the control is set to the off position.
The lights do not turn off if:
  • You switch them on with the dimmer control.
  • Any door is open.
Battery Saver
The battery saver turns off the interior lamps 30 minutes after you switch off the ignition if a door is open and the dome lamp switch is on. It turns off the interior lamps after 10 minutes if the dome lamp switch is off.
Accessory Mode Battery Saver for Intelligent Access Keys (If Equipped)
If you leave the ignition on after leaving your vehicle, it turns off 15 minutes after you close all of the doors.

I have a 1999 nissan Altima i can unlock the doors

The 1999 Nissan Altima was designed with three different methods for opening the door locks. The ignition key will unlock all of the doors by inserting the key into the keyhole and twisting it clockwise. You can unlock the doors with the remote control supplied with the vehicle by pressing the left circular button with the symbol of the open padlock on it. Finally, you can unlock the doors from the inside by pressing forward on the armrest lock button, which has a symbol of a key on it.

You most likely have a central locking system that will stay locked until you can unhook the battery. This is sounds like a similar problem I had with my 95 BMW.

Driver's side door won't open in the cold

.
Power Door Lock Operation (Front Doors)
The front doors do not have traditional door lock actuators. They have electronically controlled door latches that will operate depending on the status of the door lock system. This status is determined by the front door modules and the last known state of the lock system. If the last known state is LOCK, the latches will not release when the door handles are operated. If the last known state is UNLOCK, the latches will release when the door handles are operated. The front doors are also equipped with red door lock status indicators. The front door modules will supply power and ground to the indicators to illuminate them when the lock system is in a virtual state of lock. The indicators will not continuously illuminate when the vehicle is locked. They will illuminate for approximately 5 seconds after a lock switch activation or after a door handle has been operated and the front door modules are in a virtual state of lock. For further information on the front door latches, refer to Power Door Latch Description and Operation .
I would assume they check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes ?
DTC B3062 Front Door Key Lock Switch Circuit
• DTC B3067 Front Door Key Unlock Switch Circuit
DTC B3849 Exterior Door Handle Switch Circuit
The left front exterior door handle and right front exterior door handle switch signal circuits provide inputs to the driver door module (DDM) and passenger door module (PDM) when an exterior door handle switch is activated. These inputs allow the door module to detect a door open request. The door modules provide voltage to the door handle switches. If the door module detects that a ground is applied for greater than 30 seconds continuously, a DTC is set and the door module will ignore the door handle switch input.

Door lock 2004 jetta wagen

If remote locks and unlocks driver door but does not unlock passenger doors, then follow the advice above:
Get in the car using the key to unlock the doors. From the passenger side lock and unlock your doors using the button on the passenger door. Get out and the remote should now unlock all the doors with 2 presses.
Worked perfectly for me after several other suggestions (and dealer) failed.
