I would like to put a whole different brake system in my 1967 ford ranger f100. what is the best way of going about this? and can it be done?

This is not a complete job. You must also replace all rubber brake hoses and all metal lines on a car so old. This is major work if done properly. You can order stainless steel lines already bent and correct length, or you can make your own by cutting and flaring parts store lines to fit. I would charge at least as much as retail cost of parts for labor--perhaps more. Job could take several days.

check around as some sedans have the same rear brake setups as the f100. Cruise the wreckers (ford specialists) with your backing plate and find a backing plate same as yours from any sedan around the same year as yours.. Brake capacity is calculated on vehicle weight and as manufacturers are reluctant to spend money on developing new brake systems they tend to use the same parts on as many different models as possible.. Another thought car manufacturers use brake systems built by brake specialists like Bendix and Ferrodo and others so check other makes (dodge,chrylser even the chev range for a possible match of brake assemblies in that year.

I have a 2004 Ford Ranger @WD. The therostat is stuck open and needs to be replaced. I have been told by a Ford shop mechanic taht we willhave to replace the whole housing at a cost of $250+? Does that...


No its not. Drain the system a bit, remove the housing, remove the thermostat, put in the new one, replace the gasket, put the housing back, top up the system.

What is the best way to bleed a hydaulic clutch for a 94 ford ranger


The same as the brake system. Its best when done the old fashion way. Have someone push the clutch while you release the bleed valve. Close the valve before you have the clutch depressed and not **** in air. Repeat until the stream is solid. Refill the clutch reservoir with Dot3 fluid and your set to go.

1971 ford f100 pickup neutral safety switch wiring color code


Ford Neutral Safety Switch; Ford Reverse Light Switch; Backup Light Switch.

The Neutral Safety Switch wires in my 1971 Ford F100 are orange with a blue stripe.
The Reverse, or Backup Light Switch wires are black with a red stripe.

There are two sets of two wires across this combined neutral safety and backup light switch, for a total of 4 wires. Photos are at the end of this post.

The switch for the 1971 Ford F100 pickup truck is the same as in many other years and models. For details, including parts numbers, see the following quote from an expert at Ford Truck Enthusiasts:

The neutral switch also controls the backup lights, and is the same 1967/77.

There is no separate backup light switch..except on 1967/68 F350's.

Neutral switch location 1967/77:

The plastic half moon shaped neutral safety switch mounts on the outside lower portion of the steering column (NOT on the transmission!).

It's activated by an inverted Y shaped lever that snaps on the shift tube

The F100 ended in 1983, so there is some confusion on your 1987 Ford F100. The F150 started in 1983 and was available in 1987, but not the F100. You have this listed under the 1981 Ford F100 category.
The 300 CID = 4.9L In-Line (Straight) 6-Cylinder.
In order to best answer your question I have included both the 1981 F100 4.9L and 1987 F150 4.9L below. The only difference is with the Distributor Cap Configuration and Connections.

Brake drum


2004 ranger has 2 different size drums 9" and 10" (the difference is actually less than an inch). It sounds as if you've got the wrong drums.

Swapped a 1978 f100 complete drivetrain into a1971 f100 ranger .


you dont need to splice the harness ,look closely every thing will plug in you just need to take the distributor from the old motor and put it in the implant motor...if thier different motors get one from a wrecker that is the same year as the truck and put it in the implant motor
