High pitched squeal when i step on the brakes

Hi, For a while I could hear a high pitched squeal when I stepped on the brakes of my 2000 Mazda MX 5 (Miata)-- It was occasional-- now, it is always there. If I pump the brakes, I hear it too... What is wrong?

What is wrong is that is the warning signal that it is time for a change of brake pads and an inspection of brake shoes

I have a 93 Mazda mx6 Ls... Everytime I step hard

When my MX6 was doing this it turned out to be an hydraulic leak from the clutch master cylinder, which runs on the same fluid reservoir as the brakes. Clutch master cylinder replaced and all good again!

Front wheel noise

The first thing I would do is inspect the brakes. The brake pads have a metal indicator that will start to rub when the pads get low. It will make a really annoying high pitch squeal. It could also be a condition known as metallic squeal. This would be a metallic particle in the brake pad that is causing the noise. Replacing the pads is a guaranteed fix for this. It could also be a backing plate rubbing or any number of things. Checking the brakes would be a good first step. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using FixYa.com!

High pitch squeal with out depressing brake pedal while traveling down road drivers side front

You are hearing the brake pad warning device. Your brake pads need replacing. Do not neglect this or you will be buying rotors as well as brake pads.

Break squeal can be stopped by applying shims or anti-squeal compound to the pads.

Hyundai elantra 2006 Squealling but stops when applying breaks.

Easiest way first.....if the belt is squealing (at idle), spray it with belt dressing or WD-40.....if it stops....may be the belt or the bearings in the alternator....if it continues only with driving.....brake wear indicator letting you know...brake job due!

Please let me know if this helps!!!

loose fan belt?

Put the car in neutral, set the parking brake, open the hood, get someone to listen/see where the sound is coming from, as you press on the accelerator.
