    U will need to go to the dealer where they have the equip to track down the vacuum problem or sensor issue that thinks there is a problem, outside shops can't do these tests, only the dealer has the factory test geasr for the Evap system tests, no way around this test being done.

You need to check the vent line and make sure there is not a filter type canister in the return line from your fuel system .. sometimes these can cause a problem that is a pain. also all vacuum lines must be checked close .. and then the maf sensor near the air cleaner make sure it is all tight connections.

Code PO446 on evac system. what does it mean. engine light remains on 2004 montero sport all wheel drive with 4x4

It's the EVAP system. Code is for an open or short to ground in the gas tank vent valve. Pin hole in tank might cause a P0442 for a small EVAP leak, if the hole was large enough.

My check engine light came on and it is a p0442 EVAP SYS, small leak

Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (small leak)
This indicates a fuel vapor leak in the EVAP control system. It means a very small leak has been detected. In fact, the leak can be from a hole as small as 0.04" in diameter. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine.

Causes: A code P0442 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:
* A loose or improperly affixed gas cap
* A non-conforming gas cap (i.e. not factory/original brand)
* A small leak/hole in a fuel vapor hose/tube
* Other small leak in EVAP system
* Faulty vent o-ring seal

Possible Solutions: With a P0442, the most common repair is to:
* Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the codes, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
* Otherwise, replace the gas cap, or
* Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses

The computer that read the code for you can also reset it.  If you don't have one, you can go to your local auto parts store and have them reset it for you.  This is what your code means P0442 Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (small leak).  This is what Causes it and possible fixes: CausesA code P0442 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:

2005 pt cruiser check engine light came on put a diagnostic code tester on and it came up code po457 and po456 what would this mean?

P0457 is a loose gas cap, P0456 is a small evap system leak. The seal on your gas cap is probably worn. Replace the cap, clear the codes with either a diagnostic tester or by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and reconnecting it. It will take a few days for the code to come back if it isn't fixed, but that usually does the trick. I hope this helps.
