1997 Dodge Grand carravan. Engine Starting and running problems

1997 Dodge Grand carravan. 296,000KMs. The dask guages and lights stops working. The engine starts and runs for maybe 3 seconds then dies. repeat does the same. If I strike the dash with my fist above the glove box area the lights and guages work and the engine starts and runs as normal. Maybe ok for a few days then problem returns and I fix it as explained. I know it's only a matter of time and I will be stranded on the highway or it will not start. The dealership havent a clue but will check it out for $110?Hr

it is probably your tire pressure guage light that comes on if tire pressure is low. refer to your owners manual to match the symbol on the dash to whats in the book

Fuel guage, temp. gauge , or speedometer do not work. Only happens when the ABS light comes on. If ABS light goes out the gauges all come back on

Could your ignition key be sticking to far forward and staying there when released? I have had cars and trucks do this and it messes up stuff. If it is sticking and not coming back to the on position when starting the vehicle then get out the WD 40 and give ita shot.
I hope this helps, The Raz

1997 pontiac won't stay on

i had the same prob. w my 97 grand am. i bought a new ignition switch and installed it...after installing you have to reset the theft system. all you have to do to reset is turn the key far enough for it to bump the motor over then leave the key in the run position for about ten to twenty minutes...might hook bat. to charger cause if it dies in process you have to start all over...the theft light will either blink then stay on or go out completly....
