Your brake light switch has malfunctioned. it is locatad on top of the brake pedal but you have to stand on your head to see it up there it is a very easy fix one nut and one wire clip. when you replace it have some one watch the back of the car while you push the brakes. you will have to adjust the switch so that when you tap the brake pedal a little ways the brake lights come on. and if you do not feel comfertable to do this you can take it to a repair shop of your choice. i hope this helps you. and please rate my solution
thank you

Where is tail light relay on 1998 nissan maxima?

Is it the brake light or the running lights, are all the lights on went the ignition is in the off position and the light switch is in the off positions aswell or the brake lights are on including the third brake light?

Tail lights stay on with ignition off

The brakelight switch is located somewhere on your brake pedal arm. On many cars, there is a small rubber piece that the brakelight switch makes contact with. If that piece of rubber falls off the tail lights will stay on all the time. Look around in your floorboard for pieces of rubber or plastic. You can find another piece of rubber and glue it on if this happens. Or if the one that fell off is intact just glue it back on with superglue.

Or the brakelight switch could be stuck.

I have a 97 nissan maxima, it was serviced in february but the service light stays on. why is the service light staying on?

this light may be the check engine light. it's misleading. I've seen two service engine soon lights in cars. one for check engine, one for service. have it checked with a scanner

ABS light stays on

that has four wheel anti lock so your gonna need to either take all them off and clean ends it may correct the problem but more than likely your gonna have to take to a large shop that has abs computer to find which sensor is bad then correct the problem
