Key stuck in on position

I have a 1994 Chevy 1500 Pick up. The other day it was stuck in park and i finally got it in gear, since then my key keeps getting stuck in the on position and I'm having to go under the hood to kill it. The key will still move to the cranking position it just will not go back past the on.Any suggestions?

The switch will not let you go back to off postion unless it sees you are in parkand or nutral, check that linkage and if its not that i would purchase a new key switch and replace it.

Thats a chevy for ya ! Theres something weird between the shifter and the ignition. Turn the key as far as you can off, then put it in nuetrel. Start the car and it if starts, put it in park and turn the key off, if it is still stuck, keep trying .

My 1994 Chevy Corsica automatic shift stick got stuck at the moment I park to drop someone off. After a while after checking the gears, the fuses and even the battery, the car's gear stick was able to...

There is a small cable attached to the shift lever that runs up to the ignition switch on the steering column. If it gets stuck, your shift lever won't move out of park and your key can get stuck and you won't be able to pull it out.

Drop the steering column down and detach the cable to free up your shifter and/or key. Make sure to replace it as soon as possible as it is a safety feature.

2006 chevy cobalt LT. the key is stuck

Have you tried shifting the gears completely through and then putting the car in park. It sounds like the car isn't able to be put completely in park to release the key. Try putting the car in N and removing the key. Even thought the car may not completely be in park to release the key, The gear most likely is in park but not enough to make the switch/sensor to release.

Gear shift won't move from Park sometimes. It's stuck!

If the car is inclined severly the shifter will be harder to move as more of a load rests on the park gear. You may have to pull it hard but should come out of park. Make sure your foot is firmly on the brake pedal too and the key is in the on position
