Check engine light WILL reveal all - any good parts store can do an OBII scan for you and most like Autozone,Advance, etc... will do it free. Who knows how long previous owner drove w/light on - and a general rule of thumb - "longer the light is on, the bigger the problem gets".
Take it to Advance Auto Parts, or Auto Zone, they will scan your computer for free to get the code and tell you what it means. May just be a sensor, or the gas cap isn't tight (emissions) may or may not be serious. Thanks.
the most propable cause is you have a vacume leak. Check all intake hoses for leaks and spray brake cleaner around intake gaskets if rpms change then you found a leak also clean your mass airflow sensor
Take the van to an autoparts store and have them scan the computer for fault codes stored. The check engine light comes on to alert you that the computer has noted a fault in one of the van's systems. Getting the codes will show what faults the computer has noted. Hi, this light is signaling an issue the concerns the state of a failed sensor or electrical component. I recommend taking this vehicle to a dealership or local mechanic as soon as possible for a diagnostic run on the ecm. this diagnostic scan will tell you and your mechanic what the specific issue is and, how to fix it.
In most cases, it will be a failed sensor or a failed sensor wire/housing.
When the service engine soon light is flashing there is a miss fire in the motor if you look in your owners manual it will tell you that.The same thing happend to me and it endid up to be the cat...
There probably is nothing wrong, other then resetting the computer. If you have an owners manual it will tell you how. This happened to me and a friend fixed it in a couple of minutes
