no engine option size stated, so i wing it..(generic is harder)
ok battery changed, no need for jumper cables now.
engine cranks robustly.
so no fire, i hate to tell you that word means (NOTHING)
there is fire to each spark plug (tip spark = fire) then there
is combustion fire , a goal on all cylinders.
so use the word spark , you then check spark at all cylinders.
if spark is gone on 1 cylinder work that.
if spark is gone on all cylinder we then scan the ECU.
RULE 1, no EFI car , runs fueling unit (IT) thinks(sic) there is spark (3 way checks) this is Crash and fire protection on call cars.
most books fail to say this very important feature in all modern cars.
so that is why spark is 1st. never ever done last.
you crank engine for 5 seconds.
release key, not off. the key yet.
and the scan tool, shows P0340/355 or any codes relate to spark
CMP./CKP ,etc.
and the rpm shows 250RPM cranking, yes,the scan tool can see
RPM cranking and is a TOP check , missed by many noobs.

so now you have spark
on all cylinders.
we cross fingers #1 is good, 150PSI compression on all cylinders, min.
and blame fueling.
A: is it flooding or starving???? the spark tips (i bet its tunedup, huh)
are dry or wet.
B: more later if you get this far.

just oneline says it. for 100 years now. (otto cycle engines)
(cranks ok, compression good, spark good x4,x6, fueling last)

2000 olds 3.5 Dohc. Changed fuel filter checked fuel pressure @40 lbs resting cranking 45 lbs When i try and start it in the morning indoors won't fire crank the key to acc then on then back to acc then...

Which is the problem, no fire, or no crank. No fire means to spark to engine, but engine turns over fine. No crank means engine won't turn over when key is turned. I'm assuming engine will not turn over. Three most common problems. 1. Weak battery (get tested at auto parts store). Will hold charge for short time once started, but loses it when sits overnight. 2. Bad starter. Possible but not likely, still not out of the question. 3. Bad battery cables. This is an easy test. Take a pair of jumper cables and bypass the battery cables by connecting black side of jumper cable to "-" of battery and block of engine, and red of jumper cables to "+" of battery and (tap) Battery terminal post on starter...engine should turn over. Ensure you take all safety precautions to prevent car from moving during this procedure. Best of luck resolving this problem.

Ignition mystery! 1994 GMC Suburban 2500 5.7 mtr. No spark to spark plugs. Have spark from coil to distributor. Have changed coil wire, cap, rotor, ignition module, and coil. have 12.5 volts going to...

I guess you could have the ignition analyzed on an oscilloscope. Maybe a tech could see something then.
I always heard the only gap was the spark plug gap-the rotor has no gap-are you sure you got the correct rotor? And does it touch the top distributor cap coil wire tower?

Let us know. It is a mystery worthy of a solution.

My battery cable on my 91 Acura legend was worn causing it to split and spark when it touched metal. Would that cause my alternator to short out?

naked wire is danger especially close to fuel is live spark for fire. The cable became worn is it melted after heat or due to age? if is due to heat means that your alternator works overcharging and heated the cable, you need immediately an expert electrician to check your alternator and the circuit of you car.It is better to disconnect the battery and protect for any unexpected and dangerous contacts until the electrician check the vehicle.

Vauxhall engine

The ignition system is responsible for the starting engine:
the primary circuite is battery, ignition switch, ignition contact, condenser, ballast resistor. The secondary circuite. provide high tension to fire the spark plugs, add ignitioncoil, distributor, cap, rotoretc, high tension wiring, spark plugs. Test the mayor problem: 1) contact points and 2) coil.IF the ignition system do not provde the 20,000 or 30,000 volts, for spark plugs, will not work.

Easy test carefully:use screwdriver with the spark plug cables put around about 1/4 of inch againt the chassis give ignition, and some spark is coming, test by each spark plug cables, IF do not the coil can be faulty.

God bless you

Car not starting or turning over indicates towards multiple possibilities. It can be issue with battery or weak battery. But if battery checks out ok, then it can be starter issue or faulty alternator or problem with low fuel pressure or no spark at spark plugs due to dirty spark plugs or faulty ignition coil or injectors getting cracked or dirty and needs to be cleaned.

1990 honda wont start or crank, the lights dont come on, head or inside the car

The distributor in the hondas has a function of also engaging the coil to create spark. No spark = no fire. Perhaps take a plug out, leave the lead on, hold it with INSULATED pliers against a solid metal part of the engine and get someone to crank the engine over.

If the plug sparks - coil and firing switch OK. If no spark, check coil first - remove main + feed lead from coil terminals and check on a meter for power with key on but NO motor cranking. No power = faulty distributor/firing switch. No other ideas sorry!

If it won't turn over you may want to check Battery cables for tightness and/or corrosion Starter solenoid Neutral or clutch safety switch

The engine just started running rough, as if it was miss firing on one cylinder. how can i check it? i'm not a major problem mechanic.

Run the engine, and pull the spark plug cables off,( one at a time ) and listen and watch to see if there is a difference in the running of the engine, then refit the cable and check the next, until you see that without the cable connected that the engine dunning makes no difference. That will show which cylinders are not firing. Then , when you know which cylinder is not firing, get a spark plug, connect it to the cable and crank the engine and see if you have a spark, if you do, then the cable is ok and its likely that the spark plug is faulty. if no spark then its likely the cable is faulty. Hope that helps

Traveling at an estimated speed of 70 mph, car lost acceleration. Slowed to a stop. Ignition turns over, battery initiates, no 'fire' to engine. Fuel pump not the problem...

No fire? There probably is fire, but out of time or some liquid (water, oil, PS fluid, etc.) got into the distributor cap and the rotor fire is shorting (sparking) to ground through the liquid.
Check spark anyway, pull a plug cable and set down on metal part of engine ground. Ahve someone crank starter while you look for spark from end of sparkplug cable to ground.
Let us know...
