How do I check and replace engine oil sensor.

Knowing how these gauges work , I'd say you have an instrument cluster problem not oil sender unit. 2003 - 2006 GM had bad stepper motors in the instrument cluster . If there was a problem with the oil sender the gauge would default to zero .
Engine Oil Pressure Gage
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the engine oil pressure as determined by the powertrain control module (PCM). The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM indicating the engine oil pressure. The engine oil pressure gage defaults to 0 kPa (0 psi) or below if:
The PCM detects a malfunction in the engine oil pressure sensor circuit.

The IPC detects a loss of class 2 communications with the PCM.

If you don't know what class 2 serial data communications are ,google it. How to repair GM Instrument Cluster Speedometer Gauge Stepper

94 Chevy C3500 5.7L oil pressure sw on right side of block in the middle that has only 1 wire. It does not run the oil gauge as it still works when unplugged.

Take the sensor to oriely's ,or autozone and have them match the sensor those trucks have two oil sensors or switches as most people call them the one behind the intake at the back of the engine is your oil gauge the other is the computer switch for other purposes like for the fuel pump or etc
Purpose: As a back-up system to the fuel pump relay, the fuel pump is also turned ON by the oil pressure switch. Operation: When the engine oil pressure reaches about 28 kPa (4 psi), through cranking the oil pressure switch will close to complete the circuit to the fuel pump.

the one up behind intake is a oil pressure switch

Has no oil pressure i drove it over ten mile still runs good but no oil pressure

Just because it runs good is no reason to drive it into the ground. No oil pressure can ruin an engine fast. Hopefuly the reason no oil pressure is the sensor is bad, it's connection is corroded and thus bad. If mine I would take it to a shop and have them actually measure the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge. If no oil pressure that way, you know you have a serious problem. If the mechanical measurement is good, then you know that The sensor is bad, it's connection is bad, or the oil pressure light or ? gauge
is bed on the dash panel. Good luck.

Where is the oil pressure sensor of vw golf 1999

The sensors are usually found on the oil filter flange housing with the oil cooler. Also there are two dynamic sensors to measure pressure below 2000 rpm and above 2000 rpm so it could warn you of pressure loss within those two ranges.

Oil pressure gauge not working ,need to know location of same.

Oil Pressure Sensor Testing
  1. Check the oil level and correct as necessary. Turn the ignition switch on, but do not start the engine.
  2. Disconnect the sensor lead at the sensor. The gauge should read full scale.
  3. Ground the connector. The gauge should read at the bottom of the scale.
  4. If the gauge functions properly, replace the sensor.

4.8L, 5.3L & 6.0L Engines
  1. If necessary, remove the engine sight shield.
  2. Disconnect the oil pressure sensor electrical connector.
  3. Using J 41712 or equivalent, remove the oil pressure sensor.
Using J 41712 or equivalent, remove the oil pressure sensor.

To install:
  1. Apply sealant to the threads of the oil pressure sensor.
  2. Using J 41712 or equivalent, install the oil pressure sensor.
    • Tighten the oil pressure sensor to 26 ft. lbs. (35 Nm).
  3. Connect the oil pressure sensor electrical connector.
  4. If necessary, install the engine sight shield.

As i drive after a while the engine cutts off and the oil light comes on! I have replaced all thd plugs the oil pressure swicth the shut down relay the crank sensor and more! I still cant figure it out?

See list of possible causes shown in specific order below. Repair as required. STEP 1): DRIVEABILITY: Check for possible driveability issue that may cause or contribute to engine stall out. Condition may be caused by crankshaft position sensor (CPS) signal drop out. Suggest use Co-Pilot tool to data record the event. Repair as required. STEP 2): COOLER FLOW: Check trans cooler system flow rate. Trans should be fully warmed up. Use special tool 6906A (trans cooler system flush machine). For directions see MasterTech Reference Book #12 / December 1996 or see instruction sheet included with the tool. COOLER FLOW TEST RESULTS: WITH Aux Cooler: Pressure indicated on the gauge should stabilize below (20) psi. WITHOUT Aux Cooler: Pressure indicated on the gauge should stabilize below (30) psi. Higher pressure indicates cooler system is restricted. Repair as required. May require radiator and/or auxiliary cooler replacement. STEP 3): CIRCUIT WIRING: Check TCC (torque converter clutch) solenoid circuit wiring and connectors. Check for shorts to power or ground or chafing (rub-through). Check circuit wiring inside trans pan area. Repair as required. Check for electrical add-on equipment that may be involved. Remove add-on equipment if required and discuss with owner. If no circuit wiring problems are found replace the TCC solenoid. STEP 4): VALVEBODY: Remove and inspect valvebody assembly for stuck valves / cracks / damage / uneven mating surfaces / loose retaining screws / other. Check all mating surfaces with a precision straight edge tool. Clean and recondition valvebody assembly as required. Torque all screws to proper specification. Replace valvebody assembly if necessary. STEP 5): PUMP ASSEMBLY: Replace trans pump assembly / input shaft / seal rings / torque converter.

Hope this helps.

Guages on 87 olds cutlass are not working properly. fuel does not work, temperature works but goes strainght to hot as soon as the car warms up, amp gueage discharging oil pressure not working

Hi, you will have to replace all sending units for these gauges in order to restore them to there original state. i will list the sending units and there respective locations below.

1. Fuel gauge sending unit- you will need to replace the fuel sending unit on your Olds. its located inside the actual fuel tank. there's a floater attached to this Assembly and , its broken. you will have to replace the entire assembly. you will also have to drop the fuel tank to access it as well.

2. Temp guage-- normally when this guage starts to malfunction, its because of a bad coolant temperature sensor. Inspect the sensor's wires and connections. ECT (engine coolant temperature) sensor problems are often caused by faulty wiring or loose or corroded connections rather than the failure of the sensor itself. If the wires or connections are bad, replace them. If you think the sensor is defective, it should be tested.

This sensor is located Under hood, center, upper engine area, front of carburetor, passenger side of water outlet, mounted in intake manifold.

3. Amp gauge --- OK, this can be caused by a bad voltage regulator. i would also trace every single wire from the amp gauge to the sensor and regulator. check for corroded connectors and contact clips. replace any wire that may seem worn.

4. Oil pressure gauge-- This gauge will malfunction if the Oil pressure switch is faulty or not working. This is an Information relay unit for the indicator light or gauge on instrument panel. It contains a diaphragm that responds to changes in oil pressure. When the oil level is over a pre-set limit, the diaphragm opens the switch, turning off the light. When level is below the pre-set limit, the dash light comes on. In later model cars, if the oil pressure drops, the switch turns off the fuel pump, to stop the engine and limit damage to internal parts. Oil pressure switches can be grouped into two categories, units for electrical gauges and for mechanical gauges. If this switch is defective, it will have to be replaced. Once replaced, it will fix the dead oil gauge.

This device is located Under the hood, passenger side, front engine area, mounted rear of water pump. If the wires are worn or there is an oil leak near the switch location, replace it.

Inspecting all the above areas and replacing parts if needed, will fix your gauge issues.

Please rate and god bless:)
