Problem with 80 amp jump fuse Kia RIO

My battery died so I replaced it. When I did, it appears that there is an issue with something in the fuses. I can not take my car out of park and none of my interior lights/dash work.

I tested all of the fuses in the fuse box and in the fuses under the hood. Everything seemed to be okay. I bought a replacement 80 amp jump fuse, but I can not get the old one out. I tried with my hands and with pliers. Now I have snapped off the plastic and still can not get it out.

I NEED HELP, PLEASE!

Thanks,
Tiffini

It doesn't look like there is anything holding it in. The guy at the store said it just "snaps in real tight". Of course I have the battery disconnected... I am smarter than that!

It ended up being bolted down with two bolts. Once I got it unbolted, it was relatively easy to replace.

Incidentally, I had to replace two other fuses that blew once that one was replaced, one for the room lights and one for the meters. I also had to pop a little round cover on my gear panel and push in the transmission reset, which popped it out of park. This is something I never even knew existed!

Thanks for all of the help. I hope that this will also help someone else in the future.

If the electricity has "welded" it in you will have to take a sharp thin blade and work it between the fuse and holder to break the bond if possible.

Look closely at the new fuse and the old. Is their a retainer clip or something holding ?

Hopefully you have battery disconnected while you are doing this.

2001 Kia Rio with brand new battery and alternator will start sometimes or with a jump but then shuts off. Jump it and it may run for a few minutes and quit again or work for days then just quit. ...

The symptoms you describe sound familiar. Something is killing your new battery and the problem may indicate a need for consulting a competent Kia dealer. The erratic instrumentation is due to low voltage on the bus that feeds it. That, along with the clicking noise, are signs of a dying battery. The dealer may have a factory service bulletin (FSB) that fixes this.

Hi i had sa me issue jump started my kia rio radio display was blank. To fix open your fusebox inside the car Pull out both audio fuses your fuse puller should be in the fuse box under the hood. Yes you have two fuse boxes. One inside you car and one under the hood with your engine. wait few minutes say five... Put the fuse back in. Btw its not neccesary to pull the fuse all the way out. Your radio should show cde error... Now you will need to put in your four digit pin...gluck thanks to the guy on the internet who said pull out the memory fuse... Not that i understood till now.

I have 05 kia rio. jump started dead battery but the cables were crossed and killed it instead. purchased new battery. car stuck in park. worked when screwdriver in override button but still won'

There is a large maxi-fuse between the battery and alternator. Its at least 100 amp or more. It may be in the cable at the battery, or in one of the fuse boxes.
You may also have damaged the key switch or the brake circuit.
You may have to get a book to get the wiring diagrams to check everything involved.

Sounds like you cooked the main fuse going from the battery to the fuse box. Or something happened to one of the battery cables.
There should be a 75 or 100 amp fuse that powers the main fuse box.

It is possible that if your old alternator was shorted out, it could have caused the main fuse to blow. The fuse is located in the engine compartment fuse box. It is an 80 Amp fuse and sits off to the right - all by itself. (See picture)

NOTE: There is also a chance that there is something else wrong that may have caused this fuse to blow. If it blows again upon replacing it, you need to inspect the wire that runs between this fuse and the alternator - it may be shorted to ground. If this is the case, you probably did not need to replace your alternator.

Cant find where the 80 amp fuse or fusible link is in my kia for the charging system or alternator

It should be located in the fuse box under the hood of the car. If you have the owners manual, it sould tell witch one it is.
