I have a land rover freelancer 2002, the window from the tail gate door goes down by itself and stays down. The window goes up fine but when it closes all the way up, comes right back down. This problem started when I left the lights on and battery went dead. I had someone give me power and then the window went down. Please help.

You didn't say what year or sub model

Will be either a door lock motor assembly (the four doors); which has door switch built in, grounds the purple & white wire, or the hood switch, or the tail gate switch. You can test for the grounds or disconnect the following to test by area:

Connector C0428 on the CCU - pin 21 (the four doors), pin 22 (hood), pin 23 (tail door). Automotive door switch are normally open when door is closed and close or short to ground when door is open.

I would test the hood and tail gate first

if it is an electrical opened tail gate and it clicks but doesn't open check the solenoid action for broken rod that releases the latch

It should unlock with the second click of the remove... if not it sounds like you (may) have a bad door lock actuator in the rear door

for this problem, I think you need to see a car body shop.

I've had something like this happen a couple of times.

The cure in both instances (and probably will be in yours) is the 'recalibration' of the window lift system.

It IS in the user handbook, but here is the procedure anyway.


1 Ensure the tail door is closed, the vehicle unlocked and the alarm disarmed.
2 On 3 door models, ensure the roof is on (hard back) or lowered and secured (soft back).
3 With the ignition on, use the console switch, or the vehicle key in the tail door lock, to raise the window until the
motor stalls with the window fully closed.

(the holding the switch on until the motor 'stalls' is the key thing - you MUST allow the motor to stall)

4 Switch off the ignition.

If the calibration procedure is unsuccessful, the CCU will sound a warning for approximately 0.8 second and fully lower
the window.
Tail door window calibration can fail for the following reasons:
l Window stops before minimum travel is achieved.
l Window does not achieve a stall.
l Window request removed before stall is achieved.
l Tail door opened while driving window up.

Pull the rear trim panel off the tailgate and test the motor.

use a rag and hang it over the window. Then use the key from the outside to roll it up and make it stay up for a moment or so (20 seconds is fine) and then try to use it normally. Also check to make sure nothing is stuck inside the gasket causing the "pinch protection" to activate.

all these messages due to battery weak. Kindly have the Vehicle Started and run it for sometimes till the batter get back charged and your problem solved

its a convenience sensor have a dealership take a look at it its a range rover these things are made for people with money and the australian outback

disconnect battery reconect after 5 mins on reconnection rear window will go down , use key in rear lock to reset rear window, door lock should now work, if not try rear door relays behind left hand rear panel.
