Question about 2000 Mazda MPV

1 Answer

2000 Mazda MPV-DX 2.5L V6 won't turn over just clicks.

My 2000 Mazda MPV-DX 2.5-L V6 won't start, wouldn't even crank, it would just click under the hood. Battery was fully charged. So I pulled the starter & solenoid took them to a local parts place where they tested them on their machine and told me they were fine & good to go.
I put them back in the Mazda & it still would not start. I bought & replaced the ignition switch & the main relay. It started & ran well. I started it numerous times w/o problem but did not move or drive it. The next morning it again would not start(Would not crank the engine over it would only click under the hood. I have a fully charged battery in the car. At the starter solenoid I have two large bolt-on electrical connections & one smaller slip-on blade connection. One of the large connections reads battery current(Whatever the battery is charged to
it matches) per my VOM. The other large connection has no voltage
running to it key-on or key-off. The smaller blade connector has no voltage running to it key-on or key-off. If I jump between the Large-Hot connection & the small blade connection I get lots of spark & a loud click but it won't turn over the engine. Is the starter bad possibly intermittent?????

this sure sounds like a classic gear reduction nippon denso starter solenoid issue, yes it is usually intermittent.

Yes it could be the starter next time it won't start give the starter motor a tap with a hammer or wheel brace also check where the small blade connector is there should be a fuse in line could be the problem hope this helps regards Jim

2000 Mazda MPV Starts & runs won't go out of Park Shifter handle moves won't change gears??

I had this issue in the past. All I did was to replace the brake switch. This part is located behind the brake pedal. Btw, if you this run into this issue again in the future, you can always push this switch with your finger and it's located on top of your steering wheel enclosure, this will disengage the shifter.there is a small rectangle shape cover that you need to remove first.

1989 Mazda MPV V6 RWD: Intermittent starting problem. Battery checks out good, and just replaced starter/solenoid. connections are good at both the battery and the starter. Solenoid clicks but engine does...

More than likely the starter solenoid has burnt contacts in it, this is a common problem with all Denso designed starter motors used in almost all Japanese cars and light trucks. You can either try and find a solenoid or just replace the starter. The solenoid can be repaired if you can find the contact kit for it, most are available on line for about $20, just google it.

1989 MAZDA MPV NO CRANK NO START STARTER TESTS GOOD.

Assuming you've checked the battery for a possible short and both the battery and the starter for loose connections, no click sounds like a faulty starter solonoid, which could work intermittently.

You didn't post your engine size so please pick the applicable diagram:

2001 Mazda Tribute DX 2WD
3.0 liter DOHC V-6

2001 Mazda Tribute DX 4WD
2.0 liter DOHC L4

2wd or 4wd...it is still the same for the V6.
