    No I live in WV

  • whitley3131 Apr 20, 2009

I will check my wiring and the voltage.

    Thanks for all the help.

Ok I have test the wireing at the fuel pump connector and I am only getting 10 volts when trying to start it?

  • gerry bissi May 11, 2010

check Ebay for a genuine GM pump. Sometimes you find them there cheaper. Guys buy inventory from closing dealers.

  • gerry bissi May 11, 2010

check the voltage at the pump. It should be at least 12 v. If not, lower voltage means higher amperage and early failure of pump.

Check for corrosion at connections and for a good ground.

Also verify that all the connections to the pump are clean and not corroded

GMC fuel pumps are a must for their products. My 2001 Blazer went thru 2 O'Reillys pumps in one month before being replaced with a Chevy fuel pump. That was 2 years ago, I have not had a problem since. The pumps will cost twice as much, but much less of a headache in the long run.

98 gmc jimmy only start when primed at the throttle body then runs fine until shut off then needs to be primed again to start

This happened to me I had to spray Starting fluid everytime eventually. Starting fluid wouldn't work after awhile. Its the fuel pump. Even though it comes on and works its not producing enough fuel pressure to start the engine. It's probably giving about 12-13lbs of pressure but it needs atleast 14lbs. of pressure. And a word of advice to buy a ACDelco original fuel pump if you don't want to have to replace it again in 1-2 years, it's more expensive but will last.

My 1998 GMC jimmy won't start without starter fluid sprayed in the air intake on top of the motor.a small sprits and she starts right up.what do i need to prevent that everytime startup issue.

Your fuel pump isn't putting out enough gas to turn over motor it needs over 14lbs per square inch of pressure to start even though it only needs 12 to keep running. you will have to replace fuel pump.get acdelco and you ill never have to replace again.

Replace the fuel filter first. When you turn the key on, the fuel pump should run for a few moments, then turn off. If it keeps running, then replace the pump as well. Suggest having the fuel system pressure checked at the engine itself. Hope this helps!

Hi, had same problem with my truck. you need to replace your fuel pump because it no longer holds the pressure in your fuel rail. If you cycle your ignition on and off multiple times(this will cycle the fuel pump relay) with out turning over the engine then start it normally, that is the problem.

the fuel pressure if leaking could cause this the regulator is located under the intake plenum but you should smell gas .if you dont then most likely the pump is bad ,the pump will come on for 2 seconds when the key is on then go off it will not stay on with just the key on only when you crank it will it .so have your fuel pressure checked with a gauge.
