did you clean your engine coolant system
you might have some dirt inside the block so the coolant can not pass
and check your temp sensor it is possible it could be defect.

I have a 3.1 1992 corsica it drives fine but it just dies all of a sudden. it will start back up but then it dies again. the fan didnt work. i checked the fuses all were fine. if its a ground wire which...

Do you notice it dieing in a certain place? Like in a hilly area or on inclines? I recently had a similar problem on my motorhome. I seemed to run fine on the flats or downhill, but when I went to climb a hill, it would die. It ended up being a weak fuel pump, water in the fuel and a clogged fuel filter. So I replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter and put two cans of heat in the fuel tank (75 gallon tank) and it ran great the rest of the way home.

The Issue is most likely you're water pump radiator, or you're head gasket, I suggest you take it to youre local auto repair shop to clarify what the issue is.

Does the water pump from any other chevy car fit a 3.1 lt 1992 corsica?

There is a good bit of compatibility in the GMC line up. The list is so long I cant even begin to list it here. So Go to www.oreillyauto.com click on the compatibility tab. this page is for your year and engine size. See all the cars that part fits.

I have a coolant leak to the right of the water pump on a 1991 Chevy Corsica 3.1L engine. Is there a gasket there? It has 2 star bolts holding it down I think.

There is a gasket between the interface of water pump housing and the engine mounting surface. if you have to change the gasket then replace the pump the whole thing cost only 40 bucks for the parts. Try to tighten the mounting bolt to see if it help. However, make sure where the leak is coming from, Sometimes, the leak from not tightened hose clamp causing a leak then it splashes onto some place else when the car moves. Attached here is a picture to show the gasket.a873bd3.jpg

Replace a water pump

Not too bad...however, you must have basic tool and mechanical knowledge. Try ordering a Chiltons manual at AutoZone or NAPA for ($25) and that should help a great deal.
Good Luck
