I am having this same problem with my 1996 Ford Explorer. Both back doors on the inside and my drivers side door won't open at all inside or out, which has really become an obstacle and it sucks.

I had this problem on my 1997 Ford Explorer, right rear door. I took the inside trim off the door, found the rod going from the inside handle to the door latch was slightly bent, so it's effective length was shortened. I straightened the rod to it's maximum possible length, and solved the problem.

I suspect the link came off the door latch. They are plastic and break. Rate as fixya if this helps.

Back doors won't open from the inside

Open the door from the outside and while open look at latch mechanism on door.
There should be a small sliding or toggle lever and it only has two positions.
Flip it to the other position...and this should fix it.

This is a safety feature to keep children from opening the doors from the inside...

Hope this helps...

How can you get child locks off? We don't have a code to punch into driver's door and we have to open doors from the outside to get them open, while we are on the inside. Please help, we bought the car for...

on my 1999 ford expedition, there is a switch or lever on the inside visible side of door when open that can change the mode for child locks on or off.

The code to punch on the driver's door has nothing to do with the child locks.

Good luck on this.

Door handle outside passenger wont open door . but it does open from the inside.

The outside door handle may be broken or may have become disconnected from the rod that allows the door to open. Sometimes the ther is a plastic clip that connects the rod to the door handle and could be broken any parts store will have replacement clips. Whatever the problem is, the door panel will have to be removed to be able to inspect the condition of the door handle and parts attaching to it.

The front driver side door's outside handle on my 1996 Ford Explorer became very loose. It still works but I wanted to know how to take off the door panel to look inside to see how I can fix it. Thanks

On the inside trim, you can remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to get it off the window ledge. Pull back the weather seal and you'll be able to get to everything. Either the bolts holding the outer handle on has broken or fallen out, or the handle anchor (plastic) has broken

MY 1996 EXPLORER DOORS WONT OPEN WITH THE DOOR HANDLE FROM THE OUTSIDE ,BUT DO FROM THE INSIDE

#1,is it all doors or just one?sounds as if you have a bad exterior door handle, they're made of plastic and the ear inside the door that connects to the rod that releases the door will crack or break.you can usually buy a replacement part at your local o'reilly's or some place similar.you will have to remove the inner door panel to change it.

1994 Ford Explorer, both back doors wont open. I think the child locks are locked on, but I can't open them from the outside either, I have the door skin off of one of them. Is there a pin or latch I can...

if you can open the door from the outside of the truck when you look at the backside of the door you should see a little opening for the child safety locks one way locks the door so it cant be opened from the inside the way other way unlocks the safety latch the door should be able to be opened from the inside and outside of the truck
