If you are loosing prime in the system but not loosing fluid my best guess would be the master cylinder.

Aloha! My 1990 C-1500 454 SS rear brakes locked up and severely overheated. I did a recent 4-wheel overhaul; new wheel cylinders, hardware, shoes and drums. I did not replace the master and bleeding t

is ther a rear brake equaliser on the rear axle? this is usually spring operated that pulls up on the rear brake limiter depending on load in vehicle may be stuck in the vehicle loaded position when the vehicle isnt carrying much weight worth a look , just jack up rear end and look for spring device centre of rear axle attached to a device with the brake lines entering/exiting if there get vehicle as high as safe to do then put blocks under rear wheels then slowly lower jack and look to see if the spring device moves down with the vehicle if not this could be the problem as is exerting pressure to rear brakes so causing them to over heat keep me posted

When I apply brakes I get a severe vibration in whole pickup

I would say your problem is still possibly brake related because of your experience with clamping the rear lines. You have changed everything out in the system except the Master Cylinder and the actual brake lines. Never heard of Master Cylinder causing symptoms you describe, but I am only a shade tree mechanic. My only other suggestion would be to verify your rear tires are properly balanced. There is very little weight in the rear of a pickup and unbalanced tire(s) would exhibit the symptom in any car, but most especially in the rear of an unloaded truck. This is a tough one! Keep us posted on your progress in getting this one fixed.

2003 GMC HD 2500 Brakes are locking up while driving. I have had to loosen the brake line at the master cylinder to be able to move the truck. This is the 3rd time this has happened. HELP

sounds like the serov on the brake system has gone could be the abs side or the master cylinder its self. with engine running can you hear a hissing sound from the master cylinder. ??

Rear wheels lock up on my dodge dakota

What year Dakota? Drum Brakes?

Lock up when?

If you use the parking brake, then the cables
have to be replaced because of rust.

With proper brake maintenance once a year, there is no
reason to say they lock up while driving

R and r procedure for rear brake cylinders for a pontiac sunbird S E

Buy new wheel lock cylinders remove the brake drum then the shoes and spring follow be the brake line then you can remove the cylinder and replace in remember that you must bleed the brake line after doing this start with the farthest from the master cyclinder also good time to replace shoe spings and hardware since you will have to adjust the rear brakes any ways

Rear brake lock up

If you have drum brakes on the rear and I am pretty sure you do, and you had to remove the drums you will need to adjust the rear brakes back to the point of almost touching the drum while jacked up and spinning the tire. Not to tight. The brakes are probably traveling so far to hit the drum that they lock up. This will be more noticeable when raining or damp weather. Hope this helps.

I have a 1991 GMC Sonoma 2Wd with a 4.3 V6. I'm having trouble with the rear brakes still spinning. I just replaced all the brake parts in the back, wheel cylinders, drums, springs, etc. I replaced a line...

well your master cylinder would be most peoples guess however i am over qualified in hydraulic and air break systems you need to replace your equalizer valve its on the frame on the drivers side of the vehicle

I put all new brakes & lines on my 96 gmc pickup.how do i blead?

Its possible your master cylinder went bad, but if it wasnt bad just before you changed brakes i doubt thats it. Check your rear wheel cylinders that push out the pads to make sure their not leaking. Also check for leaking brakelines. Hope this helps.

Rear brakes wont apply consistantly

1- brake system low on fluid,
2- improperly bled (air in lines).
3- Master cylinder (applies equal pressure to all 4 cylinders) is bad.
