Question about 1999 Volvo S80

2 Answers

Automatic gearbox of volvo S80 T6 2000 doesn't work.

When i switch to D and accelerate the car doesn't move, only the rpm goes high. In manual mode it only works on 3rd and 4th. The R (reverse) works without any problem.
Thank you for any help.

I think when you push acselerator on D you here  some very low noice from the gearbox like "tstststs" :). It means that something in your gearbox is burned out, there is a lot of reasons why it happend. First: The oil in the transmission is old. and second .... the 1999, 2000 volvo cars has the same problem,  these cars main radiator and gearbox radiator is the same (If you see the hoses coming from the gearbox goes to the main radiator) there is a lot of events when this main radiator fails inside (you can not see it from outside) and it starts transphare water into gearbox.  The second reson is very good reason (I think so) it maybe in electronics maybe the SELECTOR (part in the gearbox whitch says the computer that you had switched to D position. This is my opinion becouse i have the 2000 volvo S80 too and had the problem with my transmission.

Good Luck my friend and wish to solve your problem without any troubles

i bought a 2002 volvo s80 ,it was driving very well for a few months and then the engine coolant warning light came on . i topped it up and brought the car to a garage .the mechanic tried to fix the leak 4 times ,he eventually replaced a hose . a week later it happened again and then i also had a problem with the drive gears ,it wouldnt go as the car heated up. i brought it back to the garage and he told me that it needed a new radiator and a rubber seal on a drum in the gearbox .2 days later i collected the car he said that everything was ok . but when i started the car in his garage it wouldnt move . i left it there and now he tells me that the whole gearbox has to be overhauled ,can someone please help me on this one

Throttle response is slow, especially when car is already in motion. When I give it the gas, it takes almost a full second before the responds.

Hello,

Try cleaning the Throttle Position sensor connections--maybe get some contact gel.
If a manual 5 speed: make sure RPM's are high enough when shifting during acceleration.
Getting a code? Could be a sensor "O2" (oxygen). Autozone, Oreilly's free code readings.
I hope this helps.

Its the switch consol in the steering that needs to be looked into.

Volvo s80 t6 shifting problem

The cheap fix: Speed sensor connected to the Transmission Control Module (TCM). That screws up the engine control module and could throw you into limp home mode. Expensive fix: Transmission control module. Start with the speed sensor. Suggest that to your mechanic and get a second opinion before changing out the TCM. It's a simple plug and swap, but the module is expensive. I bought a spare on Ebay for my Volvo for $10. The TCU, I believe, lives under the right front kick panel, at least that's where it is on my 740.
