I want to change my 6 speed transmission to automatic how much trouble is it in a 2003 hyundai tiburon


It would be a fairly difficult project. You'ld need to change trans mount, different driveshaft, shifter & linkage, add a torque converter, new radiator w/trans cooler built in lower section, cooler lines. On top of all that, Hyundai automatic transmissions are very unreliable.

How to remove a transmission for a 2002 GMC Yukon


Removal & Installation 4L60E/4L65E To Remove:
  1. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Transmission fluid
    • Transmission oil level indicator tube and seal from the transmission
    • Plug the oil level indicator tube opening in the transmission.
    • Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Shift cable end from the transmission shift lever ball stud
    • If equipped with a transfer case, remove the front propeller shaft.
    • Rear propeller shaft.
  2. Plug the transmission oil cooler line connectors in the transmission case.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Starter motor.
    • Transfer case, if equipped.
  4. Support the transmission with a transmission jack.
  5. Remove the transmission mount nuts.
  6. Remove the transmission crossmember.
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Torque converter access plug 4L60E/4L65E removal 9308kg37.gif

    • Flywheel to torque converter bolts
    • The two bolts securing the transmission rear mount to the transmission
    • The transmission vent hose, fuel lines, and the wiring harness from the transmission
    • The stud and the bolt securing the transmission to the engine
    • The six studs and one bolt securing the transmission to the engine. Install tool J21366 onto the transmission bell housing to retain the torque converter. Pull the transmission straight back.

  8. Flush the transmission oil cooler and cooling lines when you remove the transmission.
To Install:
  1. Install or connect the following:
    • Tool J21366 onto the transmission bell housing to retain the torque converter.
    • Support the transmission with a transmission jack.
  2. Raise the transmission into place and remove the tool from the transmission.
  3. Slide the transmission straight onto the locating pins while lining up the marks on the flywheel and the torque converter. The torque converter must be flush onto the flywheel and rotate freely by hand.
  4. Install or connect the following:
    • Six studs and one bolt securing the transmission to the engine. Tighten the studs and the bolt to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).
    • Stud and bolt securing the transmission to the engine. Tighten the stud and the bolt to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).
    • Flywheel to torque converter bolts. Tighten the stud and the bolt to 46 Nm (63 ft. lbs.).
    • Torque converter access plug.
    • Transmission vent hose, fuel lines, and the wiring harness to the transmission.
    • Two bolts securing the heat shield to the transmission. Tighten the bolt to 17 Nm (13 ft. lbs.).
    • Two bolts securing the transmission rear mount to the transmission. Tighten the bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
    • Install the transmission crossmember. Tighten the nuts and bolts to 70 ft. lbs. (95 Nm).
  5. Remove the transmission jack from the transmission.
  6. Unplug the transmission oil cooler line connectors in the transmission case.
  7. Install or connect the following:
    • Starter
    • Transmission oil cooler lines to the transmission
    • If equipped with a transfer case, install the front propeller shaft.
    • The rear propeller shaft
    • The shift cable end to the transmission shift lever ball stud
  8. Unplug the oil level indicator tube opening in the transmission.
  9. Install the transmission oil level indicator tube and seal to the transmission.
  10. Tighten the oil pan bolts and fill the transmission with transmission fluid.
  11. Lower the vehicle.
4L80E/4L85E To Remove:
  1. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Transmission fluid
    • Transmission oil level indicator tube and seal from the transmission
  2. Plug the oil level indicator tube opening in the transmission.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Shift cable from the transmission shift lever ball stud
    • If 4WD vehicle, remove the propeller shaft.
    • If RWD vehicle, remove the propeller shaft.
    • The transmission oil cooler lines from the transmission
  4. Plug the transmission oil cooler line connectors in the transmission case.
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Starter motor
  6. Support the transmission with a transmission jack.
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • The two bolts securing the heat shield to the transmission
    • The transmission vent hose, fuel lines, and the wiring harness from the transmission
    • One nut and one bolt securing the transmission brace to the engine bracket and transmission
    • The two bolts securing the torque converter cover to the engine
    • The four bolts securing the torque converter cover to the transmission
    • The six flywheel to torque converter bolts
    • The two bolts and nut securing the transmission rear mount to the transmission
    • The stud and the bolt on the right side securing the transmission to the engine
    • The remaining six studs and the one bolt securing the transmission to the engine
    • Tool J21366 onto the transmission bell housing to retain the torque converter

  8. Pull the transmission straight back. Remove the transmission from the vehicle.
  9. Flush the transmission oil cooler and cooling lines when you remove the transmission.
To Install:

    • The transmission vent hose, fuel lines, and the wiring harness to the transmission.
    • The two bolts securing the heat shield to the transmission. Tighten the bolt to 17 Nm (13 ft. lbs.).
    • The two bolts and nut securing the transmission rear mount to the transmission. Tighten the bolts and nut to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
    • The flywheel to torque converter bolts.
    • One nut and one bolt securing the transmission brace to the engine bracket and transmission. Tighten the bolts and nut to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).
  6. Remove the transmission jack from the transmission.
  7. Install or connect the following:
    • Starter motor
  8. Unplug the transmission oil cooler line connectors in the transmission case.
  9. Connect the transmission oil cooler lines to the transmission.
  10. Install or connect the following:
    • The transfer case
    • The rear propeller shaft
    • The shift cable end to the transmission shift lever ball stud
  11. Unplug the oil level indicator tube opening in the transmission.
  12. Install the transmission oil level indicator tube and seal to the transmission.
  13. Tighten the oil pan bolts and fill the transmission with transmission fluid.
  14. Lower the vehicle.

Disconnect the battery.remove the front tires.disconnect the lower control arms from the hubs.Remove the axle nuts.Swing away the hub until it clears the end of the drive axle spline.Keep it to the side.Remove the drive axles. remove the starter.remove the torque converter bolts on the flywheel.disconnect the gear linkage and all electrical connectors.disconnect the transmission cooler lines. undo the transmission mounts. use a transmission jack to lower the transmission.Installation is the reverse of the above.Be sure to torque all bolts and nuts to spec,pre load the mounts and replace the cotter pins with new ones.it should take about 5 hours to re and re the transmission.

Need info on swapping an automatic transmission on 2001 S-10 Blazer 4X4


ok.. Start with unhooking the battery, removing both drivelines, exhaust, and crossmember while supporting transmission with a jack. Remove all wiring connectors and hoses from transfer case. Remove starter, and torque converter bolts thru the starter hole..
remove the six transfer case to adapter bolts and slide off the transfer case. Disconnect all electrical connectors, hoses, and unbolt transmission cooler lines. Support the transmission with a jack, and remove all of the bellhousing bolts. You should be able to wiggle the transmission, and get it to back off of the engine and then should be able to lower it. Reverse procedure to install, and make sure the new one has fluid in it before you start it up.

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
  2. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  3. Disconnect the range selector cable from the transmission bracket and from the transmission range select lever. Refer to Shift Cable Replacement .
  4. Remove the rear propeller shaft. Refer to Rear Propeller Shaft in Propeller Shaft.
  5. Support the transmission with a transmission jack.
  6. Remove the transfer case if equipped. Refer to the appropriate Transfer Case Replacement in Transfer Case:
  7. Transfer Case Replacement (Selectable Four Wheel Drive) . • Transfer Case Replacement (Auto Four Wheel Drive ) . • Transfer Case Replacement (Manual Four Wheel Drive) .

  32. Install the J 21366 in order to keep the torque converter from sliding off of the transmission turbine shaft.
  33. Support the engine with a suitable jack stand before removing the transmission from the engine.

  38. Pull the transmission straight back from the engine.
  39. Lower the transmission using the transmission jack.
  40. Flush the transmission oil cooler and the pipes whenever you remove the transmission for overhaul, or replacement of the torque converter, the pump, or the transmission case. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Flushing .
  41. Clean the transmission case using a solvent dampened cloth. Do not allow solvent to enter the transmission.
  42. Air dry the transmission.
  43. Clean all hardware and the flywheel cover using solvent. Air dry all the parts.
  44. Inspect all the components for wear and damage.
  45. Inspect all the seals and the fittings for signs of wear.
  46. Inspect the torque converter for stripped or broken weld nuts.
  47. Inspect the transmission case for cracks.

Solenoid mounts outside the transmission, so you do not need to remove the transmission to install. It should be located between fuse box and air filter housing on the top of transaxle case and right next to transmission controle module.
I hope his step by step procedure will work for you. It is not hard at all to replace the solenoid. There are three 10mm bolts. You will also need to remove the input speed sensor. One thing to look out for is not bending the gasket when installing the new solenoid:
  1. Disconnect battery negative cable.
  2. Remove air cleaner assembly.
  3. Remove electrical connectors for transmission control module (please refer the manual I send you and autozone.com website).
  4. Remove the Transmission Control Module
  5. Disconnect and remove the input speed sensor
  6. Disconnect the transmission oil cooler lines. Cap off hoses and fittings to prevent foreign matter intrusion.
  7. Disconnect the solenoid/pressure switch assembly connector.
  8. Remove the three solenoid/pressure switch assembly-to-transaxle case bolts
  9. Remove solenoid/pressure switch assembly and gasket

Keep everything clean to prevent foreign materials to go inside
  1. Install solenoid/pressure switch assembly to case using a new gasket
  2. Install bolts and torque to 13 N·m (110 in. lbs.)
  3. Install 8-way connector and torque screw to 4 N·m (35 in. lbs.)
  4. Uncap and install transmission oil cooler lines.
  5. Install input speed sensor and torque to 27 N·m (20 ft. lbs.)
  6. Install Transmission Control Module
  7. Install air cleaner assembly.
  8. Connect battery negative cable.

Removing tranny


Ok..
This is the prosses to remove and install your Transmission.

1---Disconnect negative Battery cable. Remove Air cleaner. Disconnect shift cable from Transmission. Raise and support Vehicle. Drain Transmission fluid. Disconnect shift Linkage. Mark rear drive shaft for installation reference and fremove from vehicle. Mark front drive shaft and Remove from transfer case.
Warning.. ALWAYS relieve fuel pressure before disconnecting any fuel injection related component DO NOT allow fuel to contact electrical components.

2-- Relieve fuel pressure, and remove fuel lines from the Bracket support at catalistyc converter
And remove the bracket. support transmission with transmission jack or any compatible.
Remove transmission crossmember.
NOTE .. DO NOT stretch or damage any cables, wires or other components when lowering transmission.

3-- Lower transmission far enough to provide clearence for other components. remove dipstick tube and seal. cover opening in transmission. remove speedometer harness. remove electrical connectors from transmission. remove cooler lines, and cap all openings. remove starter motor.

4-- Remove transfer case shifter and move it aside, Remove transmission support braces. Note braces locatoin for installation. Remove converter housing cover. Mark flexplate( flywhell) and Torque converter for alingment during installation, Remove flywheel to torque converter BOLTS.

Remove transmission to Engine BOLTS. note location of any brackets or clips and move them aside. Slide transmission straight back, off locating pins, remove transmission from vehicle.

6-- To install, reverse removal procedure. Torque converter must be against flywheel and rotate
FREELY by HAND, ensure all reference mark aling. and tighten all BOLTS..

NOTE. In some cases is nessesary remove the Transfer case before the transmission.
The transfer case is attached at the transmission with six Bolt .....
