Heat/AC Vents won't close/ open

I need help for a 2005 LX AWD. Well, first day I used the AC this year and all I get is mildly cool air. My neighbor is a Heating and AC guy and the compressor is working fine. The lines going into the fire wall are COLD. I think the problem is that either a vent door is not opening or not closing. If I flip from Max AC to Defrost or defrost to Max ac,, I get a momentary blast of ice cold air. If I put the temp to hot I instant hot air. If I put the venst to recirculate, I do not get that LOAD rush of air you normally get when the vent closes.
My Element sits under maple tree that sheds these little red balls of junk each spring and they fall into the air intake below the wiper blades. I think after 4 years maybe too many fell in there and are blocking a vent but I am not sure.
I'd appreciate any ideas on how to fix or trouble shoot the issue. Anyone have a shop diagram of the heat/ac venting system? Do the vents run on a cable or vaccum? How can you get at the vent doors?
Thanks for any advice.

SOURCE: poor air flow from floor vents or when multiple vents choosen

There has to be something blocking the output somewhere. Check where vents come out to see if something has fallen down to block them.

Have the vent removed / locked open - let the air in. Volvo has no elecrical engineers. You can install the update and calabrate - then they will replace the CCCM then in a year it will lock out again. Tell them to epoxy it in position or remove the rotating drum. Poorly engineered system.

SOURCE: 2005 Honda Civic LX - no windshield defrost: AC from all vents, heat to floor, from vents, but when it is switched to defrost, heat doesn't come out- just normal temp air. Any ideas? Please help!

Defrost blend air door may be failing due to vacuum leak, bad check valve or bad actuator.

Defrorstores stay on ,try to change to floor, ac, heat vent ,deforstores still on 1995 thunderbird lx blower motor works great.

Some cars use vacuum from the engine to open and close the doors that direct the air to different positions. It is possible that the vacuum line to the controls is cracked or disconnected.

Toyota heatertaking time getting warm air

Is there air flowing through the vents? It's possible the thermostat isn't functioning properly or stuck closed. I;m not familiar with that year of Landcruiser, but find out of the vehicle has a heater/ac actuator arm, this arm closes and opens the system to heat and AC, it could be stuck.

I worked on a Ford Explored with the same problem, I have to replace the actuator.

Heat only coming to drivers side and nothing on lower vents of s40 2005

sounds like the doors that open and close that direct the air are jammed, or are not receiving a signal. Have someone run a code check which should tell you. May just need to have a faulty code erased or...$$$ repair by Volvo.

Passenger ac vent cools and driver side ac vent do not

It sounds like a heater blend door issue inside the heater box that is actually not closing all the way to allow either cool or hot air or visa/versa.

CANT ADJSUT THE CONTROL ON HEATER AND AIR

The controls for your heater/vent selection is inside the dash, behind the control switches you use to select the vents the heat/AC will come out.
When you move the selection levers, there's a few things that happen. Vacuum is applied to the doors (which are inside) and they open or they work using cables to move the doors or both. The different doors open, directing air flow to the vents selected.
Remove the controls from the dash (which should just be removing some screws, maybe a few small pieces of dash and pulling it out). The controls will be connected inside so they will not come out very far.
Just check to see if anything is disconnected and try operateing the controls with the heat on to see how they work.
Sometimes they just stick or the doors stick. This system is the way the 1991 models worked but since they are the exact same, it should be this way also.
Look it up in some sort of repair manual for more info. I find with these trucks, they don't heat very well using the front vents anyway. I find using the bottom vents work best for heat unless you need defrost.
The "heater" selection will atomatically use the bottom vents, "bi-level" AC will use the front and bottom vents if I remember right and regular AC will automatically use the front vents. For the trouble in removing these controls (the whole dash would need to be removed for repair) I probably would just live with the way they work if they do work atleast properly (enough heat and AC). If you find that you don't get enough heat or AC when in use, check the cooling system for proper operation and blockages/mineral buildup and check the AC system incase it needs recharging or you have leaks.

1998 FORD EXPEDITION AC/HEATER BLOWER

Common issue. Your air ducts were not reassembled properly and so the blower fan is working but the air is going out wherever the air duct is improperly fitted. Also the fan gate ( a metal gate that is used to block off any heat entering the system when you have the a/c on may be stuck in the close position. Whatever the case it can be repaired by getting in the sysem under the passenger side of the underside of the dash. You may want a professional mechanic to perform thid because it is a bit of a job to access all of the items needed. Hope this helps!!!
