SOURCE: Engine misfire going uphill

This sound like a classic fuel delivery problem. Start with changing the fuel filter(s). If they're dirty they might work fine under a smaller workload but begin to fail as the car starts climbing because there isn't enough flow to match what the engine needs. Then have the fuel pump tested. Changing the O2 sensor is a good idea. Cheap, easy, never hurts. I doubt seriously that your cat converter is clogged on an '01. Make sure you have a good air filter. The last step I would suggest is have the injectors tested. They might be clogged enough that they work fine under normal conditions but not well enough for heavy strain. Dealership mechanics don't work for you. They work for the dealership. Find a reputable and qualified private mechanic for testing and servicing. They don't charge as much and they get paid by you, not the dealership.

SOURCE: my 2000 acura 3.2 tl is misfiring

Check the wiring. to Coil, plugs, Crank Positioning Sensor. check to see if the wire is in good condition sometimes if wire is checked, in poor condition it will allow bleed through especially when the wires get hot. This is why it will often start when engine cools down and why it shuts off when your sitting cause it heats the wires up there is not the cool air running accross the wires when sitting. Good Luck and a grt day. Would appreciat 4 thumbs up if this was helpful.

For car not changing gears it can be shifter assembly issue, or it can also be transmission issue. Get the shifter assembly inspected with ignition OFF.

For more troubleshooting, I suggest you to get the Following help link checked, its complete step by step procedure to inspect gear shift issues: -----

GEAR SHIFT ISSUES

==========

Car not starting or turning over indicates towards multiple possibilities. It can be issue with battery or weak battery. But if battery checks out ok, then it can be starter issue or faulty alternator or problem with low fuel pressure or no spark at spark plugs due to dirty spark plugs or faulty ignition coil or injectors getting cracked or dirty and needs to be cleaned.

To confirm the problem, the basic troubleshooting is required.

From start to end troubleshooting these problems I suggest you to check the help link below and follow its procedure: -----

Mostly all types of car no start problems are discussed here with solutions.

ENGINE MISFIRE

There are few possibilities that can cause engine misfire issues. It can be issue with spark plugs or faulty spark plugs. Also get the compression test done for cylinders. If any of cylinder shows low compression then required, then that particular cylinder will cause misfire.

Also get obd codes scanned, the error code will let you know which cylinder is misfiring or all cylinders are misfiring.

2003 grand marquis with misfire code p0316

The first problem you have is assuming that the ignition coil is the only thing that can cause a misfire.

Diagnostic Test Code (DTC) P0316 is a "continuous memory only" code that indicates that there is a fault causing a misfire during the first 1000 revolutions of the crankshaft immediately after engine start-up. This should be accompanied by the regular cylinder misfire monitors (Codes P0301 through P0310) unless the misfire does not continue long enough for the regular misfire monitors to determine which cylinder is misfiring.

In order to determine what is actually causing the problem, you must have access to a scan tool that can perform Key On Engine Off (KOEO) fault testing and Key On Engine Running (KOER) fault testing as well as interfacing with the onboard engine computer to read live data and perform system tests.

Please note that generic OBD code readers DO NOT have the capabilities to do what you need to diagnose this problem. You will most likely get additional DTCs that can help lead you to find the source of the problem when KOEO and KOER tests are run. Generic OBD code readers can access only continuous memory DTCs.

Possibilities/conditions/systems that can cause this code are:
>Camshaft Position Sensor
>Low fuel: less than 1/8 tank
>Stuck open EGR Valve
>Blocked EGR passages
>Ignition system
>Fuel Injectors
>Fuel injector control circuits
>Running out of fuel
>EVAP canister purge valve
>Fuel Pressure
>Evaporative emissions system
>Base engine (mechanical) problems

Had sparks plug changed 3 times, still showing multiple misfiring, engine light on and it cuts off someimes

What codes are stored? are wires all in good shape (tightly connected, not broken)? distributor cap tight and contacts inside good? Knowing the codes would be a good start in where to look for the cause(s) of the misfiring and shutting off. I had a similiar experiences a couple years ago. One plug wire was broken and caused it to misfire when it was raining. The code stored in the computer showed cylinder 2 misfire, which led me to search for caused specific to cylinder 2. Also, later I had my car just shut off while driving. I checked the distributor and one of the clips that hold the cap to the distributor was broken, causing the cap to flop around (and random misfires).
Hope this helps! :-)

I am having ongoing problems with the truck miss firing and rough running. Timing is ok, replaced cap and rotor, coil. It still starts rough, idles rough and misses when at cruising speed, although it seems...

Misfire is a common driveability problem that may or may not be easy to diagnose, depending on the cause. A misfiring cylinder in a four-cylinder engine is, pardon the pun, hard to miss. The loss of 25% of the engine's power output is the equivalent of a horse trying to run on three legs. The engine may shake so badly at idle that it causes vibrations that can be felt in the steering wheel and throughout the vehicle. The engine also may be hard to start and may even stall at idle, depending on the accessory load (air conditioning, headlights and electric rear defroster, for example).

When misfire occurs, performance suffers along with fuel economy, emissions and idle quality. And, when a misfiring vehicle is subjected to an emissions test, it will usually fail because of the unusually high levels of hydrocarbons (HC) in the exhaust.

What causes a cylinder to misfire? Basically, it's one of three things: loss of spark; the air/fuel mixture is too far out of balance to ignite; or loss of compression. Loss of spark includes anything that prevents coil voltage from jumping the electrode gap at the end of the spark plug. Causes include worn, fouled or damaged spark plugs, bad spark plug wires or even a cracked distributor cap. A weak coil or excessive rotor gas inside a distributor would affect all cylinders, not just a single cylinder.

"Lean misfire" can occur when the air/fuel mixture is too lean (not enough gasoline in the mixture) to burn. This can be caused by a dirty, clogged or inoperative fuel injector; air leaks; or low fuel pressure because of a weak pump, restricted filter or leaky pressure regulator. Low fuel pressure would affect all cylinders rather than an individual cylinder, as would most air leaks. A leaky EGR valve can also have the same effect as an air leak.

Loss of compression means the cylinder loses most of its air/fuel mixture before it can be ignited. The most likely causes here are a leaky (burned) exhaust valve or a blown head gasket. If two adjacent cylinders are misfiring, it's likely the head gasket between them has failed. Also, if an engine is overheating or losing coolant, it's likely the head gasket is the culprit.

Intermittent misfires are the worst kind to diagnose because the misfire comes and goes depending on engine load or operating conditions. They seem to occur for no apparent reason. The engine may only misfire and run rough when cold but then smooth out as it warms up. Or, it may start and idle fine but then misfire or hesitate when it comes under load. Also, it may run fine most of the time but suddenly misfire or cut out for no apparent reason. Intermittent misfires can be a real challenge to diagnose, so let's start with a steady misfire in one cylinder before moving on to intermittent misfires.

Hope this help.

VW golf 4 03 model `s spark plugs wires are damaged by rats & are now partly not insulated can these cause the car to stall & cut when driving? It also gets to 90 degrees on the engine temperature...

Partly insulated spark plugs wires will cause your engine to misfire badly as they will cause High Voltage short-circuits by arcing to nearby engine parts: they will certainly cause your engine to stall and cut off! The misfiring will also cause timing issues and cause your engine to overheat and 'knock'.
This is a serious problem that could badly damage your engine so I suggest that you replace the damaged cables immediately. By the way, using ordinary electrical insulation tape will not help much as they are not designed for high voltage (kV range) and the cost of high voltage rubberized insulation tape as an interim solution may be higher than the cost of a cable kit.
Hope it helps. Let me know how you go.
