Question about 2001 Chevrolet Suburban

1 Answer

Suburban won't start, we don't believe it's the starter

I have a 2001 suburban. About a month ago it would not start. It did not click or crank. All the lights and radio still worked. We charged the battery anyway and it did not start. I went back about 30 minutes later and it started. I have had no problem with it not starting until recently. I went to start it and nothing. Again I charged the battery, still nothing. Lights, radio and dvd still work. Several hours later, it started. The next morning, same thing it won't start. The cables to the battery were checked and they are on good and they are clean. The alternator is new as well, so this is not the problem. My husband hit the starter a few times with a hammer and still nothing. Can someone please help me. I can not afford to have it towed to a shop to have this checked.

First try to check the fuse of the ignition if it is ok or clean coz some times when it has a corrosion it has the tendency of having a delayed power transmital . if it is fine then check the starter relay if it is good coz it also having a power surge so you have a delayed power to your starte...

I have a 1996 Chevy Suburban 1500. No crank or any noise or sound when trying to start. Battery is good, even tried jumping to make sure. Could this be the starter? If so, where is it located?

The starter is next to the side of the lower engine block where the engine and trans meet(I believe on the passenger side on GM V8s)You should get 12 volts on the small(purple?) wire of the solenoid when the key is turned to "start".If you don't get 12 volts when the key is turned,it could be the switch on the shifter(usually referred to as the PRNDL switch)IF you get 12 volts at the solenoid when you turn the key, replace the starter(my Chevy work truck has gone through 6 starters(ONE A YEAR)since I've had it!)

My 2001 Chevy Suburban won't start at times. I remove the cables from the battery and put them back on at it will start sometimes. Other times it requires a jump. It's random. I also noticed...

your battery is being drained ,, check the plug in for the towing light hook up , something is shorted across ,, clean and tighten all connections to the battery ,, once the vehicle is running,, check the posts with a meter, you should get a reading of 13.5-14.5 volts, if not your alternator isn't doing its job

Have replaced the starter solenoid, spark plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, air filter, water pump and battery all within the last two months. When the truck gets hot it will not crank. Has electrical power,...

If you haven't already done so, replace the distributor cap and rotor. There is most likely corrosion inside the cap that is causing a crossfire condition.

This is a common problem on that engine.

Don't know why being hot would aggravate it, but start with the cap.

2001 8.1L Starts ok and runs ok, then it may be hard to start till it back fires then starts right up. May die when costing, then hard to restart. Beetlegums@aol.com

I would get a multimeter on the crank sensor and check the wave pattern I believe there is a issue with timing or the crank sensor.

2001 suburban wont crank,clicks under steering column,battery is good,lights stay on,been doin off and on,but been 4 days.wont crank

Check battery conection first. Both posts on the battery terminal must be free of any debris or acid build up. Clean with baking soda and water. If it is the original battery then there is a chance that it may be going bad. You would still have lights but just not enough juice to start your truck. If the battery is new then the next thing would be your starter. Go in that order, cheapest first.
