2004 Dodge Intrepid.... Lost all steering. Steering wheel turns without affecting direction. Heard a snap sound as I began to turn the wheel from a stop. Power steering unit has fluid, belt is ok, tie rods appear ok. The sound was like a pencil breaking. Any ideas

Follow steering coloumn into engine compartment, have someone turn steering wheel with front wheels off the ground(jack up car) Look to see what is turning and what is not.

SOURCE: tie rod

No. Go to Napa, get the bushing repair kit. Turn the steering wheel all the way to the right. Remove the air inlet tube. Should be 2 7/8" bolts retaining the inner tie rod ends. Loosen both. Remove one at a time, replace bushing with kit. Use some synthetic brake grease on the bushings. I recommend Napa sylglide. Replace the bolt, but do not tighten all the way. Do the other the same way. Tightnen both bolts, reinstall the air inlet tube, get vehicle aligned.

you will need to adjust the tension on your power steering unit. if the belt'stops' turning when you turn the wheel, thats a loose belt.if you are not mechanically inclined,i suggest you take it to your mechanic before it develops a steering rack problem.[costly] if you need a manual to show you, download the manual from fixya.com i have done many motors, timing belts on this vehicle. they are very meticulus and tight spaces to reach.in otherwords[knuckle busters] i have the manual in my library if you like,i would be happy to e-mail to you. thank you for choosing fixya.com look forward to assisting you in the future.

Why is airbag light on and my horn nor cruise control is not working now with my 2004 dodge intrepid

There are wires that run from under the dash, up the steering column to the steering wheel. They flex when the wheel turns. This wire harness is called a clock spring. When it breaks, everything connected to it in the steering wheel quits. They are about 180 USD

My 2005 Dodge Neon lost steering today. Both wheels point in the same direction, but you can't turn them with the steering wheel.

Have helper turn the wheel as you look under hood. You will likely see a steering column joint that has failed.

2004 dodge intrepid wont move out of park

Usually a problem with the brake switch or the solenoid that locks the shifter in park.
You may be able to unlock the key switch without turning the switch on, then take the shifter out of park.

Locked up steering wheel

I think your steering wheel may have been under tension when you parked it. It happens to everyone. Try turning the wheel the direction that it will move and turn the key with foot on brake to disengage the locking mechanism. If this doesn't work, reply back to this post and I'll help you further...MK

Fixed Properly: You need to bring it to a shop- Modica Bros/Pep Boys/Firestone/Disount Tire/Etc. It's a simple alignment and it'll cost somewhere in the $120 price range - possibly less.

My 1994 Intrepid recently began to make a different sound when i rev the engine. It is a high pitched squeal, it sounds like a go-cart. The steering wheel also makes a loud grinding sound when i turn it.

check your power steering fluid and pump, also these units have a problem with the rack and pinion unit, but start at the power steering fluid resovior and look for leaks, low fluid will cause the pump to starve for fluid cause irrepairable damage and noise as well... please rate my help, thanks
