Question about 1985 Pontiac Parisienne

1 Answer

Won't start, won't even turn over.

Originally it would start and drive for a while but lost power until it died. We changed the Alt belt (the old one was loose and rotten) Now it won't even turn over.

Did you recharge the battery with a battery charger after changing the belt? Was the alternator checked to see if it was working correctly after the belt was changed?

The battery is most likely dead, and the alternator is shot. Take out the battery have it charged and load tested. Reinstall it start the car and use a volt meter to take a reading at the terminals. If your alternator is working it read about 14 volts DC. If it dosen't you need a new alternator.

I think it is i will probably have to pull the timing belt, it sounds like it probably skipped due to the serpentine belt cords wrapped around something under the timing belt cover, any other suggestions on alternate causes before I start pulling the brand new timing belt?12
