1989 ford f150 stalling out sorta please help

Hi there
i have a 1989 ford f150 truck runs fine except when i need the power like going up hills or on hot days and we are towing a trailer there is no common thing about any of the times it has stalled out or came close i have recently replaces the water pump and temperture sensor on the engine the only thing that is the same about my problem is that when i start to get above 65mph it starts to bog down and stall out or come very close unless i pull over and give it gas or stop giveing it gas all togather i also notcied that the egngine will start up fine with the oil pressur at normale on the gage and then drop to low and when i give it juice the gage will move back to normale but i have not replaced the oil sender sensor but over all i am at such a loss with this. i am going to change the oil pressur sensor and the fuel filter and see what happens but i was wondering if anyone has any ideas thanks

im new to this so i am not sure what vapor locking is can you explain that to me please? and i don't know if this helps but the fuel gage says full empty or whatever it may be at i know that the truck used to give a me a problem when it got down to 1/4 of a tank left but i haven't had that issue in a while

would vapor locking cause a change in my gage on the dash going from full to empty on the gas gage or will it just stay the same ?

  • steveo01111 Apr 20, 2009

see that doesn't happen with the fuel gage it only happens with the oil pressure gage it will drop to low and then when i hit the gas it goes back to normale

  • steveo01111 Apr 20, 2009

right but at the same time there is no change in the gas gage it still stays at full or 3/4 depending on how much gas i put in there but i am still going to try what you said and clean the fuel cap or just buy a new one and change the fuel filter any other things i might want to change besides the fuel filter and gas cap

vapor locking means its sucking down into a vaccume ,and wont let the fuel flow the fuel cap is vented but the holes are small and plug up you can clean them out with a small wire if you want too!!!

I have a 1989 Ford f150 drive for about 30 minutes it dies out or stop and want crank for about an hour

I would unplug the gas cap when it stalls; if you hear a hissing sound, change the gas cap, because it builds up a vacuum in the tank.

Any engine light? Can you hear the fuel pump run for a couple seconds when you turn the key to ON?

Reason for loss power up hills 1994 f150 5.0 liter

sounds like either a vacuum leak (check the bottom of the "tomatoe juice can" for starters) or a bad or plugged egr valve or egr solenoid.
check engine lite refers to emissions probs only...most likely egr or vac leak. Had the same prob on my 95 5.0 f150...needed new can and egr valve.

1996 ford f150 5.0 Runs fine then dies when radio is on

i think a trip to the local ford dealer is in order here, you won't get theis solved on the free forum, have been a Ford dealer tech for 25 years and have never heard of such a thing. all the lights u mention they come on because the engine has stalled, this goes for the loss of power steering as well..
