Question about 2001 Jeep Cherokee

2 Answers

I have a 2001 jeep cherokee theres a weird squelling noise that occurs time to time. sometimes all the time, sometimes only above 20mph, and sometimes theres no noise at all. Sounds like its coming from the front end either in the bearing or possibly U-joint what can I do to pin point the problem?

I had the same squeeling noise problem with my 2001 cherokee limited, also thinking it was coming from the front end as thats where the sound eminated from, however I found that it is actually a noise caused by the roof bars, and only seems to occur in a strong crosswind. The solution I found is to wind my window down a fraction, which stops the squeeling noise. I have spoken to a couple of other people and they have had the same problem and when mentioned at servicing they look at me like i'm an idiot, so have not found a permanent solution as yet.

1996 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 L has trouble accelerating

often times the engine needs to warm up to normal operating temperature. this varies from makes and models. if you cant wait that long, having it idle for approximately 5 - 10 minutes should at least lessen the acceleration problem, but the longer you wait the better it will be on the engine.

2001 Jeep grand cherokee motor knock 4.7 motor

First, if the noise is from the upper part of the engine and is more of a tapping than a knock, likely you have a problem in the valvetrain, most often a bad lifter or worn rocker arm. If the noise is low, deep inside, the noise is from a bearing. This is generally accompanied by lower than normal oil pressure. Regardless of the underlying cause, correcting the cause will not stop the knock. To do that correctly, the engine needs to be removed and all crankshaft bearings and the crankshaft itself need to be replaced (crank can sometimes be "undercut" and thicker bearing shells can be used depending upon the amount of wear.) If caught very early, sometimes only one bearing can be replaced in-car, but in 99% of all cases I have ever seen, most will fail again, sometimes more severely if done this way.

Jeep grand cherokee 2001 problem

See if the oil is above or below your valve cover. If it is above, clean your CCV and replace CCV gromet. If it is below, replace your valve cover gasket. If you really can't tell, spray carb cleaner on the engine when it is cold. Spray from top down and make sure it is clean in the area around the valve cover. Now watch where your oil is coming from and follow steps above.
