Check Engine light (MIL) blinking on 2000 VW Beetle - please help

My g/f's car's MIL (check engine) came on and started blinking, and her car shakes when not moving.

i took it to a VW Dealership, and he recommended a tune-up to correct a "misfire." They broke down the cost of fixing it as follows:

Drivability Diagnosis - $105.95
Set Readiness Code - 50.00
Minor Tune-up (2.0L AEG 98/01) - 245.74
Air Filter (2.0L 98/05) - 46.00
Synthetic Oil & Filter Change w/ Lube - 54.90
Fuel Filter, R&R (2.0L 98/05) - 76.41
Fuel Injector Flush - 139.95

TOTAL = $718.95.

Does this seem reasonable? We purchased the car from an individual several months ago, so I cannot vouch for its maintenance history.

Thank you...

Lewis

Vw2000 (2.0)
Blinking engine lt. Poor performance-barely make it up a hill.
Mechanic said bad O2 sensor--Replaced--had same problem-
Used "ADVANCED AUTO" Diagnostic meter---FREE FREE FREE
Code read MISFIRE
Replaced COIL pack!!!!!!!!!
Returned to Advance auto to clear codes---
NO CHECK engine light --runs like new
Believe the COIL pack went bad causing the sensor to clog and go bad--Probably could have just cleaned it.
Cost $200 parts and free labor>LOTS of bad words, gerasy hands and good running car
HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEONE

Just direct to the point, engine vibration problem!! check for d air leak from your engine vacuum system or replace the new oil seperator for your engine vacuum. refer to the vw technician and ask for the location. the rubber seal inside there must be broken. replace the new 1. i have solved this problem for vw golf GTI and vw tiguan.

2000 vw beetle 2.0 L, low level coolant light...engine mil code 1256

not the pump but air in the system or a broken wire to the coolant level sensor
that sensor at the top of the radiator tank has to be completely immersed in coolant or the circuit is broken and the light comes on
same effect id the wire to that sensor is broken in the insulation

First of all you need to access the Engine Control Module (ECM) using suitable diagnostic equipment (VAS, VAG-Com, or similar) connected to the data link connector of the car, in order to pull out all DTC's memored. DTC = Diagnostic Trouble Code. Then you will bu full informed about the root cause of the problem, and you will be able to repair & replace bad pieces and reset the ECM. Then the EPC (Electronic Pedal Control) yellow light will turn OFF.

MIL dashboard warning light came on in my 2005 VW Beetle. What could the problem be?

this is the Malfunction Indicator Light, also known as the check engine light, this light is to alert u that a problem exists in the electronic controls of your engine, transmission or emission system, or a combination of all three, u can go to any Kragen or Autozone car parts store and they will run a test to determine the cause of the light free of charge.
