Question about 1988 Chevrolet S-10

1 Answer

Just looking for a diagram of the fuel tank of the '88 S10 pickup, to see what point in the tank, the fuel line pumps from. had significant amount of water in the tank, but pumped most out by disconnecting fuel line from below the fuel filter and repeatedly priming the fuel line with the ignition switch. about a 2 second pump each turn, so that took awhile. then get enough out to run it a mile or so before finding the next water pocket and starting the process over again. cheaper than a mechanic haha, if it's the weekend and nothing better to do. but finally got about all of it out, we tested by dying the water pink and pumping into a water bottle then pouring off good fuel, trashing the water. finally made it about 15 miles down the road, almost home, but think we hit the last little tiny spot of water rolling around in there. we pumped it at various angles to shift any water. just trying to find the exact point that the pump draws from in the tank.

The fuel pump sits directly on the bottom of tank, remember to change the fuel filter as the material inside when subjected to any water will swell causing low or no flow hope this helps,if you need any further help let me know, i strive to be the best, please rate my fix Thanks Ray

Trouble shoot S10 (2.5lt) 1987 no start fuel related

fuel relay(under hood black square, should click when ignition is turn on) fuel lines, fuel filter(under driverside back of door inside frame) or fuel pump on top of tank. I would disconnect the fuel filter on the backside to see if the pump is pumping fuel, if it is then I would hook it back up and remove the front hose on the filter, if fuel is coming through then I would disconnect the line at the engine and check for fuel, hope this helped Tim

Have chevy s10 4 cyl. 2.5 pickup. For some reason it is using gas. I get 4 miles to a gallon. Can smell raw gas when standing behind it.

well you leaking gas either from your fuel pump tank float assembly inside the tankand gasket is bad that seals the fuel in or possibly a bad fuel neck aka filler tube also check your fuel lines and make sure all clamps are tight

Fuel pump 98 s10

Hi:
You must first drain and lower the fuel tank, as your pump is mounted inside. With the fuel tank supported, undo the tank mounting straps, and the filler hose, then slowly lower it until you can disconnect the fuel lines and electrical harness. The pump assembly is now accessable. Remove and replace the assembly , then reinstall the tank .

Won't start

Check for fuel pressure at carb by placing a pressure gauge between the carb and fuel line . Check fuel delivery by putting a long hose connected to fuel line at carb and cranking. If you have pressure below 4lbs or if you get poor delivery cranking (with hose in a can or jar to measure amount) than you have either a bad pump or filter. If engine starts when you pour a small amount of fuel into it, and delivery and pressure was good, then there is a carb problem. When working on older vehicles, always make sure that fuel line from tank is not rusted and leaking.

I need to replace the fuel pump in my 1985 Chevy S10 pickup, need all help. What is the procedures?

EXACT PROCEDURE ! Please Rate Me Fairly for this!! Thank you And Good Luck !!

ELECTRIC PUMP

REMOVAL
  1. Before servicing the fuel pump the fuel system pressure must be relieved. See: Fuel Pressure Release
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Raise the car on a hoist.
  4. Remove the fuel tank. See Fuel Tank / Service and Repair.
  5. Remove the fuel tank sending unit and pump assembly by turning the cam lock ring counterclockwise. Lift assembly from the fuel tank.
  6. Pull the fuel pump up into the attaching hose while pulling outward away from the bottom support. Take care to prevent damage to the rubber insulator and strainer during removal. After the pump assembly is clear of the bottom support, pull the pump assembly out of the rubber connector for removal. NOTE: Inspect the fuel pump attaching hose for any signs of deterioration. Also check the rubber sound insulator at the bottom of the pump. Replace damaged or deteriorated parts.
INSTALLATION
  1. Push the fuel pump assembly into the attaching hose.
  2. Position the fuel tank sending unit and pump assembly into the fuel tank. Use a new "O" ring seal. NOTE: Care should be taken not to fold over or twist the strainer when installing the sending unit as this will restrict the flow of fuel. Also, verify that the strainer does not block the full travel of the float arm.
  3. Install cam lock over the assembly and lock by turning clockwise.
  4. Reinstall fuel tank.
MECHANICAL PUMP

REMOVAL and INSTALLATION

NOTE: To ease pump installation, rotate the camshaft so the camshaft eccentric is out of the way of the fuel pump rocker arm.

  1. Disconnect fuel lines from fuel pump.
  2. Remove fuel pump mounting bolts and the fuel pump.
  3. Remove all gasket material from the pump and block gasket surfaces. Apply sealer to both sides of new gasket.
  4. Position gasket on pump flange and hold pump in position against its mounting surface. Make sure rocker arm is riding on camshaft eccentric.
  5. Press pump tight against its mounting. Install retaining screws and tighten them alternately.
  6. Connect fuel lines. Then operate engine and check for leaks.

97 s10 fule pump stop workin

The fuel system before the fuel pump should be checked to verify that there is no clogging of fue lines. There might be a possibility that the fuel tank could have corroded deposits, so when the fuel pump sucks fuel from the tank, these debris are collected into the fuel system which can cause blockages, so in reality the pump itself mite not be the problem. Also is there anyway that you can verify that the fuel pressure is of desired value (psi)?
