Question about 2002 Dodge Ram 3500 Truck

2 Answers

2002 3500 dodge diesel- After changing from 2nd to 3rd, it seems to try and go back and forth until you increase speed . Have changed apps and solved a lot of problems. this just started all at once. One mech said I need a transimission overall. This may be true, but it seems to me some sensor or switch needs adjustment.

It seems we didn't need a rebuild. I had a bad downshift solenoid.

It is referred to as a Governor Solenoid at Chrysler .

Check your batteries. I have seen a bad battery cause the Alternator to go into "super" charge mode and give the computer a false reading on shift times. I had this happen on a '98 Dodge Cummings.

When in 2nd Gear go to 3rd 4th and 5th with oot touching the accelerator car increases speed on every change

if its just a slight increase then thats a normal reaction the vehicle is already moving so the pull effect has been broken,, usually by the time your going into 3rd gear you already have the vehicle up to speed, ,, if its a big increase in speed, then you need to check for vacuum leaks, and or a stuck carb or throttle body flap thats not closing properly

1994 ford E350 E40D trans/7.3 diesel Shifts great and after 2 miles seems to shift back and forth between 2nd and 3rd gear. seems the lock up engages and dis engages. Any ideas? changed out the MTPS?...

the solenoids in the trans may be sticking, try adding 1 pint of dot 3 brake fluid to the transmission fluid and drive it for a while-give it a chance to work..the brake fluid acts like a cleaner and it makes worn seals and clutches swell a little.just drive it easy for about 20-30 miles, its only about $3.00 and it could save a $1,600.00 rebuild

Transmission problem 98 dodge dakota

just try changing your transmission fluid and filter first, and its not a 5.1 its a 5.2 unless you have the 5.9 r/t then it would be a 5.9. i would change fluid and filter first and go from there... and as far as the extra effort it takes to shift from park, try using the parking brake when you park, set the brake before you put it in park and take your foot off the brake pedal, that stops the truck from resting on the transmission park gear and should solve that particular problem.
