Question about 1990 Toyota 4Runner

2 Answers

Power problems Ok so my 1991 Toyota 4 runner has been having power issues, I've been jumping it for a while now. I seem to have the battery full then it will drain within hours to nothing. I replaced my alternator once already, and same problems keep occuring. If it makes any difference, the truck won't even start on it's own. I turn the key and it just makes a click noise. Any advice would be appreciated.

1. Change your fuel pump.

2. Have a look at the starter. That is definately the problem.

Cheers.

Have you checked the water in your battery? I've had to replace my battery a few times with my 1990 4Runner maybe you should do this also.

SOURCE: my 1991 toyota 4 runner starts, but not run .

check trasmisson fluild level if it is full check to see if it ssmells burnt if it smells like onions and is brrown then the filter may be plugged and the fluid is burned so you will have to replace it. however most likely it needs to be rebuilt snd tork converter replaced. hope this helps.

Are the parts from a 1990 toyota 4 runner interchangeable with a 1991 4 runner? I'm not looking to swap the engine, just the exhaust system, power window motors and such.

most parts from 90-95 will interchange. also, alot of parts from the pickups during those years are interchangeable with the 4runner.

means it's going out or the transmission oil will need to be changed, check the transmission fluid if it is brown and smells likes onions have the fluid changed and the filter, this may not fix it but you may get lucky, if it's the band or clutch assembly you will have to rebuild transmission.

1991 toyota 4 runner oil usage - what's normal

Too much oil could make your oil pressure get too high and could blow out some seals. I would pay the $ and have someone drain it back to the level it should be at or it might cause more problems down the road.

That's my opinion.

Start up issues

Take your starter off and have it checked out. Sounds like it's taking too much power, and possibly killing your battery. A bad starter will drain your battery when the vehicle isn't running.

My 1991 Toyota 4-runner gas mileage decreased from 21 to 18 mpg

Sounds like you have no Torque converter lock up function. The wiring connector for T/C lockup solenoid must have been disturbed or the solenoid is bad. No lock up will make a 200 RPM difference in high gear
