If this is really a villager, it is a loose shifter. You listed under F150.

There is 1 or 2 torx bolts that loosen up. You need to remove the plastic steering column cover (2 pieces, about 4 screws) kust behind the steering wheel. Then locate the torx bolts and tighten. It is in the center of the photo pointing down. There may be 2 more facing toward the front of the car. Move the shifter and watch what parts move and look for botls attached to it.

95 cougar stuck in park with no brake lights.already check the fuses replaced brake light switch, will not start from neutral.

Still no brake lights would indicate a bad wire. Check for power at the brake switch, repair the wire, they usually break close to the plug. This will get back the lights and shifter. The no start would be the neutral safety switch on the transmission. Usually the switch is under the shifter cable. Some have a separate switch.

What type of shifter cable does 1994 Mercury Villiager have

Don"t know about a shifter cable but if you problem is a loose shift lever that will not engage the proper choice(R D N 2) your problem is most likely a loose or missing bolt on the shift mechanism under the dash. Did you find a gold colored bolt on the driver side floor? If you did this is the one of the shift mechanism's bolts. Get under the dash with a flashlight and move the **** lever. You will then see the shift mechanism move. The mechanism has two bolts. If both are visible thighten them securley. If one is missing replace it. The culprit is usually the right bolt(sitting in driver seat or left if you are looking up under the dash. I was told that the problem was a defective shift cable but that was not the problem.

95 merc vilager has a problem shifting into gear. i.e, from park to reerse seems a little hard,i actually have to push the shifter in and count the gears

check for a loose shifter screw in the column. Remove the upper and lower plastic covers behind steering wheel and check the torx or allen head screws. they are probably loose.

Ran out of gas. after putting gas into my 93 mercury villager it would not start. please HELP

2 Suggestions:
Check the gas reset button located besides the parking brake pedal (red button), press it and try to turn it on.
Check with a mechanic if the gas pump still works (if you ran out of gas you could probably have damaged your gas pumpby overheating it)
