SOURCE: Center Diff Auto Button

that is a all wheel drive option button. however most fuel economy problems are related to poor maintenance practices. to boost fuel economy make sure you have regular tune ups have the fluids at proper levels have the filters changed ie(fuel, oil, and transmission).generally this should help your engine perform better.

SOURCE: Toyota 1998 Carib 1.6L using

if not smoking from tailpipe the check all around engine compartment and undercarraige for leaks. if engine is burning oil there will be some smoke light blue in color. maybe too light too see but you can always quickly sniff around tailpipe oil smells oily when burned but if the engine is burning it badly there will be enough smoke to see. this means either bad seals around the valves in the engine head or bad rings on the pistons. do a compression test for rings. if compression is equally high then the problem is in the head's valve seals get a valve job. how many miles on vehicle? hit me at bizibodi_61@yahoo.com.

SOURCE: It wont start after oil spill

This could be as simple as damaged spark plug wires (due to oil spray) or as serious as burnt valves or blown head gasket. I would first clean the engine bay of all oil residue. If the ignition wires seem to be sticky or melty even after cleaning, they are probably bad. You can confirm this by watching the engine in a dark garage while someone else turns the key. Make sure you oil is at the correct level. If you see sparks jumping from the wires to the engine block or valve cover, they are bad. Another test to do is compression. You can rent a tool for this at most auto part stores. Check the compression on each cylinder, again making sure the oil level is correct. If one or more cylinder reads very low, you probably have a burnt valve or a head gasket leak. If all cylinders are about the same, but the pressure is low, the piston rings may have been ruined. You can pour a small amount of oil (1-2 tbsp) into each cylinder through the spark plug hole and retest. If the pressure reading increases substantially, the rings are bad. If not, the.head gasket has probably failed. Assuming that the oil never ran out and the engine never overheated, however, the main problem is probably in the ignition. A tuneup with new spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor may solve the problem completely.

Yes!! probably the front diff actuator is sticking , the wire that command the disengagement is not making contact properly, or the actuator itself is bad, also if you replace the tires with a size different from the manufactures that can create an engagement problem.

I have a 1984 Toyota Carib Sprinter 4wd wagon (this is a Toyota Tercel in the States). I'm trying to replace the fuel filter, but don't know how to depressurize the fuel system on this vehicle.

Don't worry about it...as soon as you loosen the fuel filter clamp the pressure will go away. It's not that high. Just wrap a rag around the connection.
You can also pull the fuel pump fuze with the engine running...when engine stops the system is depressurized.
If it has a mechanical fuel pump (?) there will be very little pressure if any in the system.

Depends on if you have push button or stick lever. There should be a button and dash if push button and a lever in the console area that will get you back in 2wd

1997 Toyota Carib. 1.8 auto. 4wd. Have and issue with taking off from a stop in drive. When I put it in low manually it's fine but doesn't seem to keep picking up when go to second. Any help is...

when you manually select a gear then the transmission will stay in that gear as this is what it is designed to do ( crawling over rough terrain -going down steep grades will not change gears and loose traction control) If it is not changing properly in auto mode then run the fault codes to check for faulty sensors.

1988 Toyota land cruiser won't go into 4wd

so this is part time 4WD and as such only works
on ICE or dirt.
not pavement free of ICE
(its not AWD) its part time.
post location, (so i can read your weather report, dig?)
or post out door temps and conditions above. failure., (im blind)

if you drive in 4wd (PT) on pavement (no ice) it will wind up.
if you keep doing that, you may destroy the transfer case is the
drive line winds up.

see diffs here

http://www.lcool.org/technical/diffs/diffs.html

your car has no center differential.
do not drive car in 4wd until you understand how top use part time
4wd, or $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
or get hurt. or others./?

2001 Toyota sequioa won't engage 4wd

For your four wheel drive to engage, the front diff actuator has to go into 4wd and then sends confirmation to 4wd ecu which in turn engages ur transfer case (center lock) If frame was just replaced, i check the connector on top of your front diff and make sure its plugged in as this would be a definite cause. Let me know how you go.

Where does diff lock display come on dash or button

diff lock displays on dash and is opperated by a dial to the left of the steering column. the center diff lock is operated by a button in the center dash and locks your center differential, making your front and rear driveshafts turn at the same speed. the front and rear differentials lock either your front or rear or both differentials making each wheel on the same axle turn at the same speed. all of these features are for increased traction in off road and wet conditions and situations

Auto transmission fault on toyota landcruiser amazon

Howdy, My name is Mark, I am a mechanic (Auto trans and Diff specialist 23 years) this symptom is common with a broken driveline component, with full time 4WD and centre diff all the drive goes to the wheel with least resistance, (or to broken component) therefore when you engage difflock (Center) the drive then goes 2 ways front and rear so vehicle will drive, could be as simple as stripped spline in front wheel hub, broken CV joint etc. 1 major weakness these vehicles have is if driven with center diff lock engaged on high traction surfaces they do break the front diff, this will give the same symptom but you would of been aware of it when it happened.
To check where the drive is going chock all 4 wheels, park brake on, bonnet up, start engine let it idle down (after cold start), engage reverse (high range open center) from the front of vehicle and off to one side you can see the front axles, if one of them is turning that is where your drive is going, have someone to help you and under no circumstances place your self under or in driving path of vehicle.
Hope this helps

Center Diff Auto Button

The button is to lock the central diff to distribute the power 50/50 front to rear when in slippery conditions,
Normally with button off the drive system favours the front wheels.
