The 700's just are notifications that the trans controller has found the previously noted fault codes.

I would check the wiring and if no obvious wire damage is present then replace the output speed sensor. The sensor is on the left side of the trans, about midline height, all the way at the very rear of that side. There is a an input turbine sensor at the front end of the trans, same side, same level that is comparable in appearance.

Not comcern about the P1684, but your going to have to bring it in to a tramsmission shop to have the PCM scaned unless you have more CODES you have not mentioned.

The dark blue/black wire should be continuous at pin 13 and the light green/white to pin 14 of the trans controller if you want to verify the wiring. The trans controller has a 60-way plug and is located on the left front side shield of the engine compartment, forward of the power distribution box and abs controller if you have that as well.

Look for transmission codes from P0700 to P0899  which should pin point the problem and get you out of the limp mode.
Look for other codes P0500 to P0599 which is related to the speed controls and idle control sytem which is common to be related to your problem.
Good luck and hope this helps.

I have a 1999 Chrysler 300M. Simultaneously, the Check Engine light came on, the speedometer stopped working, and the car doesn't shift out of 2nd gear. What's the likely problem?

these vehicles have alot of problems with the tcm( tranmission control module) internal failures of trans speed sensors. your car is currently in "limp in mode" to protect your trasmission!!!

2000 300m shifts into 2nd gear and locks out all other gears. (limp mode) Changed speed odometer sensor, and have pulled #11 fuse, Checked wiring. battery cables removed for re~set. What else can be...

you replaced the output speed sensor, try replacing the input speed sensor, sometimes called the turbine speed sensor, thats where the computer gets the info to shift.

Will not move from 2nd gear help PLEASE?

Your transmission is in a "limp in" mode. There are 2 sensors that need replaced. Total cost should be less than $100. I had it happen to me on my 99 300m. The sensors limit the speed to about 25 mph and the RPM rev's high. Just get the sensors replaced.

Trany stuck in 2nd gear on my 2000 chrysler 300m im being told that i will need a new trany is this true.

the chrysler transmissions go into a default setting and stay in second gear when there is a governor or governor pressure sensor problem,if you keep driving it that way..u might need a trans,u should have it scanned for trans codes and see what you come up with, the rams were the biggest offenders when it came to this problem, either a turbine sensor code or a govenor solenoid or pressure sensor problem, hope this helps

Gear shifting on 2002 chrysler 300 m

transaxle reset mode page 148 of the owner manual. when the transaxle sensor detects an abnormal condition that can cause damage, it drops the transmission into second gear to protect the transaxle from damage. pull over to the side of the road, shut off the car and restart it. it may go away for a little while and let you drive normally. mine kept getting worse. I took it to the dealer and they had to replace a part that works with the transaxle (not the transaxle or transmission itself). it cost about $900 and took them 3 attempts as the first two replacement parts were bad out of the box.

Sounds like the shifter cable is corroded to the point that it might snap. Replace the shifter cable. Best wishes to you.
