97 F150 4.6 4X4 supercab , code 0153 O2 sensor slow response,Bank 2 sensor 1. Is this the passenger side and sensor before the cat? Also code 1151 I have no reference for this code,not sure what it is. Thanks Greg

SECTION 303-14: Electronic Engine Controls 2000 Expedition/Navigator Workshop Manual DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION Electronic Engine Controls The electronic engine controls consist of the:

  • powertrain control module (PCM)
  • throttle position (TP) sensor
  • idle air control (IAC) valve
  • engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor
  • camshaft position (CMP) sensor
  • crankshaft position (CKP) sensor
  • mass air flow (MAF) sensor
  • intake air temperature (IAT) sensor
  • heated oxygen sensor (HO2S)
  • knock sensor (KS)
  • vehicle speed sensor (VSS)
  • cylinder head temperature (CHT) sensor
The PCM needs the following inputs to calibrate the engine correctly:
  • engine rpm
  • engine coolant temperature
  • amount of engine detonation
  • crankshaft position
  • air temperature
  • throttle position
  • cylinder head temperature
  • mass air flow
The TP sensor:
  • sends the PCM a signal indicating the throttle plate angle.
  • is the main input to the PCM from the driver.
The IAC valve:
  • controls bypass air around the throttle plate at low speeds.
  • is controlled by the PCM.
The ECT sensor:
  • sends the PCM a signal indicating engine temperature.
  • resistance decreases as coolant temperature increases.
The CMP sensor:
  • sends the PCM a signal indicating camshaft position used for fuel synchronization.
The CKP sensor:
  • sends the PCM a signal indicating crankshaft position.
  • is essential for calculating spark timing
The MAF sensor:
  • sends the PCM a signal indicating mass airflow rate of air entering the engine.
The IAT sensor:
  • sends the PCM a signal indicating the temperature of the air entering the engine.
  • resistance decreases as temperature increases.
The HO2S:
  • has the ability to create a voltage signal dependent on exhaust oxygen content.
  • provides feedback information to the PCM used to calculate fuel delivery.
The 4.6L KS is located in the lifter valley. The 5.4L has a unique linear KS located in the lifter valley.
  • The KS sends a signal to the PCM indicating engine detonation.
The CHT sensor:
  • is mounted into the wall of the cylinder head and is not connected to any coolant passages.
  • sends a signal to the PCM indicating cylinder head temperature.
    • If the temperature exceeds 126°C (258°F) 5.4L, 130°C (265°F) 4.6L, the PCM disables four fuel injectors at a time. The PCM will alternate which four fuel injectors are disabled every 32 engine cycles. The four cylinders the are not being fuel injected act as air pumps to aid in cooling the engine.
    • If the temperature exceeds 154°C (310°F) 5.4L, 166°C (330°F) 4.6L, the PCM disables all of the fuel injectors until the engine temperature drops below , 154°C (310°F) 5.4L, 153°C (308°F) 4.6L.
The VSS:
  • is gear driven by the transmission.
  • sends a signal to the PCM indicating vehicle speed. For additional information, refer to Section 307-01A R4100 and/or Section 307-01B 4R70W
P1151 - Lack of HO2S-21 Switch, Sensor Indicates Lean A HEGO sensor indicating lean at the end of a test is trying to correct for an over-rich condition. The test fails when fuel control system no longer detects switching for a calibrated amount of time. See Possible Causes for DTC P1130

P1130 - Lack of HO2S-11 Switch, Fuel Trim at Limit The HEGO Sensor is monitored for switching. The test fails when the HO2S fails to switch due to circuit or fuel at or exceeding a calibrated limit.
  • Electrical:
    • Short to VPWR in harness or HO2S
    • Water in harness connector
    • Open/Shorted HO2S circuit
    • Corrosion or poor mating terminals and wiring
    • Damaged HO2S
    • Damaged PCM
  • Fuel System:
    • Excessive fuel pressure
    • Leaking/contaminated fuel injectors
    • Leaking fuel pressure regulator
    • Low fuel pressure or running out of fuel
    • Vapor recovery system
  • Induction System:
    • Air leaks after the MAF
    • Vacuum Leaks
    • PCV system
    • Improperly seated engine oil dipstick
  • EGR System:
    • Leaking gasket
    • Stuck EGR valve
    • Leaking diaphragm or EVR
  • Base Engine:
    • Oil overfill
    • Cam timing
    • Cylinder compression
    • Exhaust leaks before or near the HO2S(s)
A fuel control HO2S PID switching across 0.45 volt from 0.2 to 0.9 volt indicates a normal switching HO2S.

P0153 - HO2S Sensor Circuit Slow Response (HO2S-21) See DTC P0133

P0133 - HO2S Sensor Circuit Slow Response (HO2S-11) The HEGO Monitor checks the HO2S Sensor frequency and amplitude. If during testing the frequency and amplitude were to fall below a calibrated limit, the test will fail.
  • Contaminated HO2S sensor.
  • Exhaust leaks.
  • Shorted /open wiring.
  • Improper fueling.
  • MAF sensor.
  • Deteriorating HO2S sensor.
  • Inlet air leaks.
Access HO2S test results from the Generic OBD-II menu to verify DTC.

I have the code p0139. replaced o2 twice, need to track down the wiring. does anyone have some advice?

code p 0139 refers to heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) 2 bank 1--slow response===causes --heating inoperative--wiring--HO2S
oxygen sensor(O2) 2 bank 1---slow response===causes--wiring ---O2 sensor
as you have replaced the O2 sensor twice with no results then it will be the heated sensor that is faulty
heated sensors are the units in the exhaust manifold of exhaust pipe before the cat converter and O2 sensors are the units after the cat converter
It is normally the HO2 sensor that fails and the wiring problem is from not using the correct special socket for installation or removal that causes damage to the fragile wires to the unit

I'm getting a code on my 2002 firebird 3.8 PO153 slow response o2 sensor Bank 2 sensor 1. Where is that located at?

it is the sensor after the cat converter for the bank at the front of the engine if it is a conventional engine configuration and not front wheel drive then bank 2 is the lhs of the engine looking at the fan from the front. the sensor will be after the cat converter
the sensor before the cat ( exhaust manifold) is a HO2S which is a heated sensor and a totally different sensor and operation

What dose the engine code po 1151 on a 1996 ford torse mean

Its an o2 sensor bank 2 sensor 1 which is the o2 sensor on the passenger side in front of the catalytic converter it has failed.Replace the o2 sensor and reset the computer.

I have a 97 gmc sierra 4x4, 5.7 engine. it is throwing a code bank 2 sensor 2. well i have 2 rear sensors, which one is it?

Bank 1 is side where #1 cylinder is, bank 2 is where # 2 cylinder is. Sensor 1 is before cat, sensor 2 is after. So, passenger side after cat.

Engine light comes on and goes off. engine code P0153 O2 sensor CKT- slow response bank 2 sensor 1. I replaced all 4 sensors 4 months ago. Which one is sensor 1 - the top or bottom

Bank 2 means the drivers side, and sensor 1 is the upstream sensor. I believe sensor 1 is located before the cat. converter, and sensor 2 is located after

Code p1151 . which sensor are we talking about ? i replaced the maf sensor and i still have the problem . can i have baught a faulty sensor?? if so how do i check ?? and the sensor on the muffler closest...

code p 1151 refers to the heated oxygen sensor(HO2S), bank 2 running lean===causes --intake /exhaust leak/s,-- HO2S sensor bank 2 ---wiring ---ECM
replace the heated oxygen sensor ( in the exhaust manifold before the cat converter)using the correct tube spanner to avoid damage to the sensor wires
the problem of apparent in and out of drive indicates a wiring problem to the transmission in either the torque converter clutch servo/ solenoid or TCM

O2 sencer where are they located

The 02 sensor is located on the exhaust system. It should be a single wire sensor. You will find it between the exhaust manifold and the CAT.

Where is the location of the bank one sensor one o2 sensor on my 2003 chevy suburban

bank 1 on a chevy is on the drivers side youll have 4 O2 sensors sensor 1 bank 1 is on the engine side of the cat converter sensor 2 bank 1 is after the cat converter (drivers side )
bank 2 is on the passenger side sensor 1 is pre cat sensor 2 is post cat converter

Bank #2 referes to the side of the eng in which cyl. #2 is snsr #1 referes to the sensor before the cat. conv. and the code is for a slow response so, basically a lazy O2 snsr. So if you can locate cyl. #2 and follow the exaust manifold on that side of eng. the very first O2 snsr you see is the one in need of diag./repair
