The top of the tank has an opening where the gas guage sending unit is installed. The gasket can give out and it can leak when the tank is completely full, but won't necessarily show signs of leakage when the tank is partially full.
Requires dropping the tank and changing the gasket... hope this helps.

Gas mileage is very poor.

Stop and go driving obviously uses more gas. The best thing to do is to make sure you do not have a leak. Then the next time you fill up, record the gallons and current mileage on the car. Then compare the next time you fill up by the total mileage on the car divided by the gallons just inputted. That will determine if your gas mileage is high or average.

96 honda shadow VT1100C fuel leak

if you always put as much gas as you can especially when its cheaper you are probably getting fuel into the fume emissions part of the entire fuel system. see if you can find a diagram of your fuel tank system to be sure its vacuum and not fuel. don't top off . its the worst thing to a fuel system

Why does my 04 caravan drink a lot of gas?

Your fuel sending unit in tank is bad,may be incorparated with fuel pump or by itself.Car isn't going to drink gas that fast unless leaking. If tank reads a half, fill up to see if it's really half empty, and if it is half full, then your driving a gas hog.

Gasoline smell in car

You may have leakings fuel line on top of gas tank when filling up or line is leaking where they connect to fuel filter under body maybe behind rear wheel wells , or may have a leaking furl injector or even your carbon gas canister filtr need chaging or ovver filling can send fuel up to that canister which recirculates gas fumes back to fuel system check your gas cap maybe leaking or when gas attended over filling it runs down into drain tube
