Engine Shaking. hello, i have a 02 honda accord and i had the scheduled 60k miles regular maintance done to the engine. the engine now sounds like an airplane engine after i accelarate from 5 to 15 mph. another problem i have encounter is that my engine starts to shake. the shaking is more noticible when shifting the gears to R or while its idle (P). it also shakes when idle(P) and i turn the steering wheel right or left. the shaking is not constant but it does happend alot. Thank you in advance.

yes they did change the timing belt.... thank you for your suggestion... do you think this is a big problem if i dont get it change promptly?

  • dan lincoln May 27, 2014

i think you had best go see them again to be sure they havent installed the problem. engines that shake often have a misfire. they can have an ignition problem or a vacuum leak, fuel problem etc... i would verify spark if i could or take it to the last tech that had worked on it

Did they leave parts off or halfway installed? it seems to have a misfire as well as an intake or exhaust related problem. if i were you and couldnt do the work, i would go straight back to them

so will answer generically (physics)
1: lost 12vdc electrical power to EFI (if not carb))
2: bad need of a tune up, the 60k mile service points listed in oper. guide in the glove box, lost it? ask we have it.
3: lost engine compression, forgot that 60k mile timing belt (boom)
4: lost spark to one cyl. or all.
5: bad fueling, ask for tests, once this far.

all the tests are easy, do you want to guess, or test?

99 Honda Accord 4 cyl manual 54000 kms, serviced

USA answers, always.
and 60k is most cars. (most cars they like to die at 100k miles)
and is not possible by any human to answer EOL , end of life.

that depends if its Honda belt, or Gates or some china carp
sold off fleabay.
and air temp, where you live, Climate, Pheonix. or Canada?

ok it seems this belt is the first ever to be changed out. Gates is the best.
my online links shows 5 engine options, 1.6L to 3L.
that begs the question #1 is my engine interference type,
if you go to the GATES (tm) ecatalog, you can see if it is or not. using engine type. option as your selection.
i pulled up the maintenance tab and it states, 105K miles.
but may vary by engine, and for sure if belt is 2nd time.
look up this info carefully.
and can vary with cars driven extensively in stop and go traffic.
hot , and long engine hours, but low miles.
i see no chain, on the 5 engines, alldata shows 5 belts.

105,000 miles best case USA.
168,000 meters 168K meters

urgent.? 2.3L is interference 105/60k (60k miles severe usage)
3L?
i look at Gates and bingo Interference.
so URGENT.
is it urgent.
easy answer?, if it looks bad, it is. get it out of there.
cracks, fraying, distortions of any kind.
only reality counts. (yours)

navigates. is the ecat.
http://navigates.gates.com/

if really paranoid, get a real Honda belt... 105k miles is magic.

Does the 2001 Ford Escape 4 cylinder non turbo have a cam belt? If so when should it changed?

Yes the 4 cylinder 2.0L engine uses a timing belt to turn the cam. According to the Ford Scheduled maintance guide for your year and engine, the belt needs to be changed at 120,000 miles.

Where can I find the maintenance schedule for 30,000 miles on '08 Honda Accord to print out and take it to my mechanic? The one that shows everything that should be done at 30,000 miles? It is out...

Your mechanic should know, 30,000 is not as the important, 60,000, 120,000 is the major maintaince, maintance scheduals are all the same for every car, stop at a shop and ask for a list that is performed, Honda has is , just ask.

Hello, I am looking for service schedule for 2004 honda accord - specifically if there is a scheduled maintence around 70K miles? Thansks. David

Yes they do have a service interval at 75k I'm guessing your check engine light may have just popped on and you can't figure out why??? Have it checked for trouble codes and let me know what you come up with. Check service manual for maintenance requirements if you're a do it yourselfer. Let me know if you have any codes or any other questions

Went to start my car this morning been running fine and it will crank but wont start the maintance required flashes 10 times then goes off it is a 2004 honda accord lx

Timing belt ever been changed? Sure does sound like the problem. An old belt will snap on a cold start. Might want to look to see if the belt is tight and in place. These belts break regularly on Hondas with over 70,000 miles on them. Timing Belt change interval is 50,000.

1998 honda accord maintance required light is on ,what does this mean

the maintenance light staying on means that you have passed your scheduled 7500 miles w/o an oil change etc... if you have just done the service, they should have reset it for you. on your particular model, up to the first 6000 miles the light will come on for around 2 seconds when the ignition is turned on, between 6000 and 7500 miles the same will happen, except after the ignition is on, the light flashes for 10 seconds. the third is what you have, a light that will not turn of after 7500 miles without service. to reset, with the ignition off, press and hold your reset button on the instrument panel and start your vehicle and keep the button held down for 10 seconds, it should turn off. I hope this takes care of it for you, Good Luck!

Does a 1998 v6 accord need a tune-up? I can't find the manual or a maintenance schedule online. I don't want to call the dealer 'cuz they just want your money. My car has 140k miles and runs pretty...

All engines need periodic tuneup. At the least is spark plugs, fuel and air filters, and O2 sensor(s). Any timing belt driven overhead cam engine should have the timing belt replaced every 50 to 60K miles. If it fails while running, nasty things happen to valves and pistons--this problem varies by manufacturer and engine design. You should change the oil filter along with every oil change.

Shaking engine...

taking it that you had the timing belt changed
the job may not have been done correctly and the belt is not tensioning properly resulting ion a harmonic fluctuation that is your problem
if the job was done by a local mechanic take it to an accredited Honda service center for a diagnosis and if it turns out to be the fault discuss warranty rework or have the job done professionally and have the mechanic pick up the account
