Car shuts off while driving and appling brakes. some say it is the maf sendor how ever this model does not have one, what it does have is a map sensor so i bought one at autozone for 52.00 and put it in there. going less then 2 miles car stalled out again and did not restart had to have it towed back home. before i changed it i could restart the car so now what could it be. i have spent over 500.00 trying to fix this from a mechic. plus 52.00 more this is a chevy lumina euro 3.1 L. this car is at 137,000 miles and is still dtroung when running.. so please help

Does this model have a EGR valve ? if so this will cause you to stall at stop signs and hard starting if it gets stuck open .. also check all vacuum lines under the hood .. just a thought for you to check thanks Jerry

well the key does not have a chip. but I did find it was the computer chip itself so I got one from a junk yard and work great afterwards. At the same time I bought five more of them for back ups my car is now 24 years old and still running good. Egr was changed and was no help

Wow have you tried to put the car in neutral when stoping, If it does not stall you should check your t.c.c. solinoid. (assuming that you have an automatic trans.)

My car stalls when driving and it does not want to start back also after i shut it off it wont start right away what could cause this

depending on the vehicle it could be the block dispack (not separate coil packs ) or the crank sensor. or even in some cases the MAF/MAP sensor, these are the main faults secondary faults can be the injectors relay/or the injection control unit. this is depending on the model. also some models in the USA have an engine cut off system if the cat sensor fails this would shut the engine off and do the same as the first set faults.

Yes the mass air flow sensor is tied to the trans module and is used in the calculation of the shifting points. I would change the MAF. I have ran into GM cars with MAF sensors stalling engines. Those years were notorious for it

When starting my 95 camaro and the rpm drops to idol my car vibrates like it is not getting enough gas and acts like it will shut off

Is the RPM correct, should be 800RPM, You have a MAF (mass air flow) and a MAP sensor, also a IAC.(Idle air control) Depending on the engine size you have both a MAP and MAF, so basically you need to inspect for a broken vacuum line at the MAP sensor, you also need to look for false air, which is a broken vacuum hose affecting the idle.3_17_2012_3_31_56_am.jpg

Hi, you can try cleaning the MAF sensor, but you probably need a new one. Fortunately you can get one for only $70 at autozone. This is cheap compared to other MAF sensors I've seen.
First check the connection on the sensor. If good, remove the sensor and spray thru the mesh with electric parts cleaner. Reinstall and see if it's any better. If not, replace the sensor.
Not sure if the MAP sensor is bad or not. Can you tell us the exact codes you got, as there are several different ones for each sensor?

My 2000 nissan xterra wont keep idle and it sputters when sitting. when i am driving it hesitates like it wants to shut off

try disconnecting the MAF (mass airflow sensor) - it is located after the air filter, usually a black box in the intake tube. Could also be the IAC valve which monitors the engine temp, that can be disconnected but will cause high idle if removed, dont know where it is on your car though.

If the MAF is faulty, disconnecting it will make the car idle and run again, but will generate a CEL (check engine lamp) on the dash just because the MAF is not seen by the ecu, but it will run on a default map till you get another one fitted.

Engine shut off during driving

try to mess with the air flow and if that doesnt do anything it could be a map/ maf sensor if the car feels like it is losing fuel pressure

MAP sensor

My info says for 7.5L
federal emissions has a map sensor, no maf.
California emissions has a maf sensor, no map.
Some fords if you suspect maf sensor problem, everything off, unplug it, then start the vehicle take it for a drive. If it runs better check for a problem with the maf system. sensor--wiring circuits--computer, whatever.
Are there any applicable trouble codes? How long since a tune-up?
