There are alot of things that can make an engine missfire. I would start with the ignition. check the plugs wires and coil. if all is well then check injectors and fuel rail psi. for bleed down. also check vacume lines for disconnect, cracks, breaks, etc. If you have a "p" code I could help more but these are generalthings to look for.

When a misfire occurs, engine speed will fluctuate. If the engine speed fluctuates enough to cause the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor signal to vary, the Engine Control Module (ECM) can determine that a misfire is occurring.

What would cause my 99 Tahoes upper intake to explode. I mean blow a hole the size of a softball in it

engine out of time or a misfire. even too much fuel sitting in the intake and a spark back flash hence misfire.

It just started to sputter and check engine light flickers off and on. What's wrong?

Flashing CEL means the ecu is picking up a misfire count over 50% misfire that high can cause a rich enough mixture to damage the cat if you can get a scan tool that will show data list you can see which cylinder is misfiring and have an idea of where to start looking for you problem

Why the loss of power and po300 code?

HARD TO SAY WITH OUT BEING THERE BUT THIS MIGHT HELP .
Crankshaft sensor Was the trouble with my 99 Chevy truck after replacing many components like coil cap rotor wires and so on .
http://www.obd-codes.com/p0102 Code P0300 Causes and Fixes Code p0300 is a code that is generated when your engine has a misfire that is not related to only one cylinder. Sometimes this code will be set in addition to other codes such as p0301 which means that there is a misfire on cylinder 1 (cylinder 1 is the number one cylinder when looking at the firing order. It is generally the forward most cylinder on the engine.). If these engine codes are present as well the you should diagnose those first as they are probably causing code p0300.
This code will set your check engine light and needs to be fixed as soon as possible. If it is not then you will probably need to replace your catalytic converter as well as the problem that is causing your misfire.
There are many causes for this obd code. Since it is a "random misfire" or "multiple misfire" this means that the misfire is on different cylinders and not just one all the time.
Common Causes
  • Low Fuel Pressure
  • Vacuum Leak
  • EGR system malfunction
  • Internal Engine Problems (such as low compression)
Less Common Causes
  • Faulty Coil
  • Faulty Spark Plugs and/or Wires
  • Camshaft or Crankshaft sensors
  • Ignition module
  • Computer

2006 RAV4 V6 multiple cylinder misfire, VSC, check engine and sli

You need a scanner to pull out the engine light codes.
Use a shopu manual to aid you with the diagnosis and repair.
The slip indicator and vsc light being on means these systems are not working. Once you pull the codes and do the repair and erase the codes the lights will go off.
There will be a code in there for the misfiring.
Good luck and keep me posted.

The engine light is on and blinking, engine trying to stall out

this means your engine has a misfire, there will be a code to ID the cylinder causing the light to flash, Kragen and other discount auto parts stores will test the system for free unless u are in California.

I somewhat agree with other solutions on this page. I agree that what you are describing is a severe misfire, however there are MANY possible causes for a severe misfire other than just the spark plugs...I recommend diagnosing the CAUSE of the misfire before spending any money "GUESSING" and replacing a bunch of parts.

Also, a code P0300 is a "RANDOM MISFIRE" code which indicates that there is definately more than one cylinder misfiring. Your computer MAY display this code, however, a SINGLE cylinder misfire can also cause a loss of power and the check engine light to flash.
You may just have something like a bad coil on one cylinder that needs to be replaced. This is why PROPER diagnosis is recommended.

Engine keeps missing. unknown codes

Code 1682 indicates low battery voltage. This could be a problematic alternator, which would likely cause misfiring. Autozone should be able to check this for you for free.

Code 1391 indicates the computer can not see the crank or cam sensor signal. This would likely be a result of the misfires.

Code 0320 indicates the crankshaft position sensor reference signal could not be found while the engine is cranking.

All of these issues point to either a cam/crank sensor malfunction or a charging system problem, either or both of which could cause the misfiring.
