Is the Prizm an interference type engine that would be seriously damaged if the timing belt breaks?

there are 3 engines, all made by toyota.
if it has a belt, some engines, are not free running.
find your engines. then go to gates belt do com and look it up
and see last column, "interference'?
or join a toy forum and ask there, after finding the engine code.

Blew the timing belt, is it fixable? would it have hurt the valves?

The 1.6 liter and 1.8 liter - 4 cylinder engines in a 1994 Toyota Corolla are :

non - interference engines ( according to the Gates website , they make timing belts

etc. )

Read more: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Interference_or_non-interference_1994_toyota_corolla#ixzz18sCsYgeh

Non -Interference means your valves would not have hit the pistons so no damage should have been done to your engine.

Have a 95 GEO prizm 72k miles been running great until last week the engine seemed to sputter a bit losing power. This has happened three times but the car returned to running normal. Now the will crank...

i suspect that you need a timing belt. you will also need to find out if this engine is a interferance engine if so you can do damage to valves by trying to turn it over.

How to change a timing cover seal on a 1992 Geo Prizm? Car is leaking oil bad out front of engine, I assume it is the timing cover seals.

This is the same as a Toyota Corolla. Plan on replacing the timing belt and all associated parts. The problem is either the Camshaft or Crankshaft seals. Timing cover seal does NOT keep oil in the engine. The oil getting on the timing belt WILL cause premature failure.
