A friend of mine has just purchased a 1991 Jeep Wrangler. All lights are working on dash, but are very dim. Main problem is that the "maintenance required" light is stuck on. All other lights that are supposed to shut off do. Any suggestions on both the maintenance required and dim lights?
On the dim dashlights, there is usually a rotory switch that you can turn to increase the power to the dash lights. In earlier vehicles it was part of the headlight switch and you just turned it one way or the other to adjust the brightness. In newer vehicles it is a switch like a knob sticking out of the dash on its side that you push up or down to change the brightness of the lamps.
The Maintenance Required light is probable on because the vehicle has hit the 50,000 mile mark and it comes on automatically so that you take the vehicle in for maint. of the emission system. If this is the case there is usually a way to reset it untill another 50,000 miles go by. I would read the owners manual, or better yet pickup a Chilton manual for the vehicle and see if it says how to reset the light. You also may want to have the vehicle checked to see if any trouble codes have been signaled. Good Luck, RAC
