Also locks open/closw with key remote. Don't work open/close with button on door. Do work manually, push up & down. Obviously, this & windshield wiper lack of power is related to wire damage. Where do I go to get this repaired? How costly is such a repair?

  • martinskysr Apr 20, 2009

Lots of wire cut off, missing. But only wipers & inside remote lock door button dont work. Can a repair shop or dealer add new wiring? This i comparable to rodents chewing wires, only worse because wiring was cut off, pulled off in part & shortened.

Thank you. I worry alot, too much. Will be relieved when I find a dealer or repair shop to fix it. Hoping it's not extremely costly, like over $1,000. Again, thanks.

Hi Martinskysr,

Issue :- Wiper not working.Moving.

There might be millions of reasons for the same and you would agree. It's not possible for us to discuss each and every aspect as it would take months to understand and troubleshoot that. The best we can do we can go ahead and troubleshoot the "Main" reasons.

Lets try to understand How the wiper works...

http://www.howstuffworks.com/wiper.htm

So, on the basis we can troubleshoot it in 4 parts.

1. Wiper blades are not at fault.

2. Wiper motor is burned out.

3. Windshield Wiper circuit is not blown.

4. There is an electrical problem in the circuit.

WIPER BLADES ARE NOT AT FAULT

Check the below mentioned details :-

The Wiper motor could be the issue or the wiring may be faulty have check manually to find the fault. the other fault issue with the central lock if you replace the whole kit it will take some where $100. Getting both thing done will not cost you more than $300.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

Thanks
K

It can be faulty wiper motor or blown wiper control fuse.

Do you hear any kind of noise when you starter the wiper function. If yes then fuse is ok,but issue is wiper motor.
If no movement at all and no noise then its blown fuse or shorted/loose wiper control wiring:-----

Windshield wiper doesn't work

If both wipers don't move, could be the switch or the wiper motor.

The windshield wipers to my Ford focus stopped working today. They worked for a little while & then stopped in the up position. You can hear the motor working but they don't move. You can move them...

Your wiper linkage has come off the wiper motor. To reconnect the linkage, first remove the wiped arms, the remove the wiped cowl. The wiper cowl bolts are located under the hood and screws through the spaces in the cowl. Reconnect linkage, reinstall cowl, reinstall wiped arms.

Wiper stopped working...what is the problem

Wipers Not Working - Things to Check

To troubleshoot car windshield wiper problems, you need to thoroughly investigate problems with any of its operating parts. Here are some of the things that you need to check to determine why are your car windshield wipers not working.

Check Wiper Motor
The wiper motor is the driving force of the windshield wiper. Feel the motor and listen to a humming sound. If there is no humming, the motor is the problem. Check if the motor is working properly and see to it that its electrical connections are made properly. If you find that the motor is dead and beyond repair, get it replaced immediately.

Check For Break in Connecting Wires
The connecting wires of the motor sometimes go loose and that may cause the windshield wipers to stop working. Also check the battery plug connection which the motor has. Connecting the loose wires properly or fixing/replacing the plug might solve your problem.

Check Wiper Switch
Another wiper assembly part that can malfunction is the wiper switch itself. Check for switch malfunction and if you find that is indeed the problem, get it replaced from a mechanic.

Check for Bent Wiper Arms
Bent wiper arms can cause the operation of the wipers to be hampered. If the wiper arms are bent beyond repair, get them replaced immediately.

Check For Blown Out Car Fuse
A blown up car fuse could be the culprit that has stopped the windshield wipers from working. Check the fuse assembly under the dashboard of the car. Replacing a blown fuse might fix the problem of windshield wipers not working.

Windshield Wiper Sprayers Not Working - Things to Check

Sometimes the windshield wiper sprayer stops working which can be very annoying. The washer mechanism is a self cleaning mechanism for the windshield. Here are some of the things that you need to check in case it is not working.

Check Windshield Washer Motor
The windshield washer mechanism might have been impaired due to the malfunctioning of the wiper washer motor. Check if its working and get it replaced if it is beyond repair.

Check Windshield Washer Fluid Level
Sometimes the washer doesn't work because the washer fluid levels are not filled to requisite levels. Filling in fluid might restore normal functioning.

Check For Broken Washer Hose
The connecting washer hose that connects the reservoir to the nozzle, might be broken or worn out stalling the overall operation. Check the hose for leaks and get it replaced.

Check Washer Nozzle For Clogging
Last thing to check is the nozzle of the washer for clogging. An obstruction in the washer nozzle might be the reason for windshield wiper sprayers not working. Using a pin, clean the clogged nozzle. This might restore the sprayer to the normal working condition.

My windshield wipers stopped working, but i can hear something come on when i cut them on, but they dont move... i dont even know how to get to the wiper motor to even check it out! car is extra...

I am not sure on this specific vehicle but the wiper motor on all cars connects to linkage to convert the motor energy to the wipers. Most likely what happened if you here the motor moving is the linkage came loose from the motor. This is usually an easy fix once you find the motor it is usually on the drivers side fire wall up high under the hood.

Wiper problems

You have a short. A power wire grounding to the body. Check the wiring around the wiper motor. It is located under the trim between the hood and the windshield.

If you don't see anything obvious like a loose wire, a wire that has a cut and touching the body, it could be from the switch to the motor, or the motor itself.

Passenger side leak under dash board

Ok take off the windshield wiper arms, then remove the plastic piece under the wipers below the windshield, there is a tray under there and some drain holes, you may have to remove some more plastic pieces once you remove the one below the windshield (some models are slightly different) clear out all the tree leaves and pine needles and such from the tray there are drain holes in the enter, and on each end push a long flexable rod down carefully or compressed air really works the best this is you problem it needs to be done every few years or more often if you park under trees.
If this information is helpful please give me a fixya! Rating , Thank you, Randy
