Re: smelling gas in the tail pipe
Your going to have to get your car scaned for codes. For some reason your car is running rich, "engine is getting to much fuel". It could be as simple as a bad O2 sensor or bad EGR valve or bad fuel pressure regulator.
Just to many things to look for. Simple check is to see if the vacum tube is cracked or fallen off the fuel pressure regulator, other then that. Auto Zone could scan your car free of charge so you can buy what you need to get it running right.
Good luck and hope this helps.

Getting water in the tail pipe is a good sign as the engine will always have moisture when not running. Water on spark plugs is a bad sign as there may be a leak from a cracked cylinder head which is then a major job, the car should be running erratically or will stop.
To check if this is the case take out the oil dipstick and see if the oil is light brown instead of black then you have a problem as mentioned so needs major overall to the engine.
Hi Ahill, If it is only the tail pipe it should not affect the consumption, but you may have exhaust gas coming into the vehicle at certain speeds, so I suggest you have it seen to asap, as there is a possibility of it being dangerous. Sleeping while driving is not good for your health! Regards John
I appreciate you asking mr to help you with your problem. However, I am not really certain what you are describing here. Are you saying that you have RAW, UNBURNED FUEL coming out the tailpipe? Or are you saying that there is an excessive amount of LIQUID coming out the tail pipe and you are not really sure WHAT it is?
If the latter is the case, and you have a lot of white steam coming out of the tail pipe, you really need to check your engine coolant level. You could have something like a blown head gasket causing this. A blown head gasket will cause the engine to push engine coolant out the exhaust.
If the smoke comming from the tail pipe is black your running rich. If thats the case the entire fuel system has to be ckecked out. Injectors could be leaking, a bad pressure regulator, stuck return line ,a coolant temp sensor could be telling the ECU that the engines cold give her more gas. I don't recommend doing fuel service unless your qualified to do so for the obvious reasons.
If the smoke coming out of the tail is grayish you have a bad head gasket. If the smoke coming out of the tail is blue you have engine oil getting into the combustion chamber. keep me posted
If its smoking that bad you should be able to tell if its oil or antifreeze by the smell, stand behind the car as its running, if its white and you smell a sweet smell its antifreeze if its blue and smells like a oil refinery its oil.
Yes, the best way to determine if you've blown a head gasket, it to use the diagnos # 4 gas analyser or smog test analyser- (the tube that goes up the tail pipe), place the wand near the radiator. if the wand reads finds CO in the cooling system ,100% blown head gasket
