2000 alfa 156 stuck in gear (reverse), wont start. 2 mechanics had a look, couldnt fix it. its been 4 days and still at the workshop. please help...

Hi Regelyn,
Bad news because the box will have to be removed and the selector rods and forks will need to be checked and sorted out. You may do better to look for a second hand gearbox and have your shop mechanics fit it for you. Even if your mechanics manage to get it out of gear, something is wrong inside the box for the fault to have shown up in the first place and in all likelihood will happen again.

Alfa's have a Nylon ball with the gear selector (under the gearbox). They wear pretty easily. This could be pretty worn, either that or you're running low on gearbox, or "selespeed" oil. Check them out. They're pretty important and can cause serious problems to the gear box if not looked after.
