Lifter noise

You have a sticky lifter.. put a pint of Marvel Mystery oil in the crankcase. Let it run a while. That should fix it.

What's the easiest way to quiet down my chevy s-10 2.2l 2001? It makes a loud clatter noise when its running but after it warms up it almost goes away, its got to be a lifter wouldn't you think cause that's...

If it is a lifter then change the oil and add Rislone to the oil. It is an additive that has been around 50+ years and works great to free up sticky lifters. Start changing your oil more often will also help.

I have a 92' Saturn, it has almost 200,000 miles.

If you can,go to Autozone and they will check your battery and alternator for free and only takes a few minutes, also check your fusible link,it is inline with your positive cable on your starter side.To check, get meter, put red cable at starter where positive battery connects too and black cable from meter to ground near by.Should read 12 volts or more.If not reading correctly, find fusible link and replace.

I think a valve is sticky, a tappet noice is heard when the vehicle is started, it last only a few seconds. It also from time to time while driving make the same sound, it is a tappet making the noise,...

Hi Christo.
If you hear a tappet noise when the engine is started, and it goes away after a few seconds, if is not a very serious problem. What is happening is that you have Hydraulic lifters that maintain they're adjustment when the motor is not running. One of the lifters is collapsing. When you start the engine it pumps back up and works. Since lifters are at the top of the engine, you should that you use. It is called "Sea Foam". It is an excellent product to ad to the oil. It helps keep the engine cleaner and removes any moisture from the oil. It is great with hydraulic lifters.
Just so you know the difference. If you have a sticking lifter, you will have a constant tapping sound. I have used Sea Foam to un-stick lifters successfully.

It is recommend that the belt be changed at 60,000 miles.
I also recommend that the dealer do it.
If the car is under warranty you must tell the dealer to replace it. If you do not tell them to replace it, THEY WILL NOT.
If the belt breaks, it will DESTROY the engine.
Hope this is helpful to you. Happy New Year
Greetings, Mark

Just purchased renault megane 99 platei know it only done 1000 mls in 1yr and been standing for a few mths. And only now noticed the tapping noisewhat can i do.oil is fine and temp is good.please help.

Suspect a sticky cam follower/tappet that is hydraulicly adjusted and isn't being controlled properly. Usually adding some additive in the oil that frees up lifters will help, or an oil change using an additive for the same purpose will help. It may even 'go away' on it's own over time. Good luck!

Wont start

i dout it being lfters as they are hydraulic & wouldnt create a misfire that bad without a lot of noisy Ticking going on
could be fould spark plugs or leads breaking down
A good tuneup on a anyliser & or a computer scan will fix it all up!

weak fuel pump, clogged injectors, air or coolant temp sensors out of specs. Timing belt was put on wrong. Timing is off. Map sensor out of specs. You do have a light on. Fixing why the light is on may fix your problem.

Bad lifters

I imagine you probably have a 3.0 L in your van. Probably over 200,000 km (120,000 miles). the lifters in these engines have a problem with wearing holes in the bottom and not holding hydraulic pressure. get the lifters replaced. It is a 3 hour job according to the Chilton labor guide. Depending where you get lifters the can cost any where from $60 to $300. I got my last set on eBay for $40 us + shipping.

Hope this helps you out.
