Check tires for balls or feather . in any case could be bad tires.

Shocks are usually pretty much shot after 45-50K. Also check damper (sideways shock on steering linkage). Shake is either wheel balance or a worn steering component (should have been checked before alignment...shame on them if they didn't)

I have a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. There is a "violent" vibration that occurs only when you are going 40-60 MPH and you hit a bump or pot hole on the highway. The front end begins to...

Vibration from about 40-60 mph is usually attributed to wheel balancing, but the onset when you hit a bump seems to indicate play in the steering linkages (tie rods etc) or suspension members and stabiliser bar rubbers but you had that all checked out, that brings us back to the wheel balancing.

Front end shimmys/shakes, happens especially after hitting a bump. Feels loose or something, usually around 40 - 50 mph.

Can someone tell me what Tie Rod Ends are? I've been told by my mechanic that I need to replace them. Why does the car need to be realigned when I get this service?

The tie rod is part of the steering mechanism. If you replace these they will not be exactly the same as the old ones which may have changed shape over time etc... Here is a very good site for info relating to your car and helps with all the technical stuff... http://news.carjunky.com/how_stuff_works/what-is-a-tie-rod-abc170.shtml

Steering wheel shimmy at highway speeds

This sounds like tie rod ends are going out. Before you remove the old ones, mark on the threads where it currently is seated or you will throw it out of alingment when you put new ones on. You may need to borrow or buy the tool for poping out the tie rod end. They aren't a big deal to change if you have some basic tools and sometimes you don't need the wedge tool either. Once you get the old one out, try moving it around. If it is real loose and moves easily, thats your problem. But the swaying you are describing sound like this is the problem. Could be you steering control arms as well but because the inside of the tires are worn I doubt it.

98 mazda millenia shaking front end at 40 mph?? any clues??

try the simple solution first put your front tires on back and back tires on front. check your air pressure then take it for a drive and see if any thing has changed. if so you probably have a badly worn tire. if no change have someone move the steering wheel back and forth wyle you are under the fornt of the car (dont forget to chalk the wheels) and see if any of your steering components are loose/moving. if nothing is loose and your tires are good try to bounce the front end. if you can really get the front of the car going up and down pretty easy you havce bad struts/shocks.

03 Dodge Ram 2500 Quad Cab 4x4 Death Wobble at around 70 mph???

I have a 2004 with the same problem. It is actually a defect on dodges behave. The steering box flexes on the frame when you hit a bump. Bd diesel puts out a steering box brace and a new track bar with the right geometry to fix it. I had replaced everything under my front end before i saw the article in off road adventures magazine. I contacted dodge and asked why this was not a safety recall. They said they no nothing about it and refused to help me. I called the National Highway Transportation Safety Board and filed a complaint. I suggest you do the same and anyone else who reads this. If you need to contact me email me at kazi94@mailcity.com. maybe we can get enough people to complain before someone dies from this.
