How to tighten the serpentine belt on a 4 cylinder 2003 toyota camry?

Hi Tyrone - those belts aren't going to tighten. They have what is called a tensioner - a pulley - that will flex back and forth so that you can put the belt on and off without tension being on it. You'll move the tensioner, pressure is relieved - you can remove the belt. When you release - it will go back to the extended position. When you put the belt back on - you'll move that pulley again, get the belt in place and slowly release the pulley so that it puts tension back on the belt.

What are the symptoms exactly - is the belt squealing or do you see or feel extreme vibration while the car is running? I'm not sure if I have the tech info on the 2003 Camry - but if that's a serpentine belt there may be other issues. There may be an adjustment on one of the other pulleys - I'll look now. If you can reply with exact symptoms I may be able to help you out. That 19mm bolt you mentioned may be the tensioner pulley bolt. Some have bolts - some have a hole where the tip of a ratchet (3/8" - 1/2") would go - that's how you get the pulley to move.

I have a 1999 Mercury Sable. A bearing in a pully loked up, think it was airconditioner but not sure, anyways the serpentine belt broke. Is this the timing belt? Can I put another belt on it without...

There is no problem with reinstalling the Serpetine Belt. But what have you done about the pulley that is locked up?

You need to find the bad pulley or you will smoke a belt before you leave the driveway. Unplug the wire on the A/C clutch pulley if the compressor is locked up. You need to do this because the A/C will cycle when the dash is set to Defrost setting as well as on AIR.

The idler pulley is the spring loaded tensioner. It is common to lock up. If this pulley is bad, you can keep using the A/C and just replace the Idler pulley.

Check the Alternator, water pump, anything that turns to find the lockup. The timing is done inside the engine with a steel timing chain and is not a part of the Serpetine belt.

I dont have a diagram to run serpentine belt to a toyota camry 03

Replacing Serpentine belt on a Toyota camry 2003—

Step 1--Examine the belt placement of your Toyota Camry fan belt so that you will remember how to put it back once you have removed it. Refer to the vehicle owner's manual for further information. Locate the pivot bolt on the front passenger side of the engine. Loosen the pivot bolt with a socket wrench.

Step 2--Loosen the adjustment locking bolt that is just below the tensioner pulley with a socket wrench, and then loosen the tensioner pulley to allow the belt to move free.

Step 3--Check the belt for any signs of cracking or irregular wear, so you can fix any problems that may exist with the pulleys. Remove the fan belt from the pulleys on the engine and take it out of the engine compartment.

Step 4--Wrap the new fan belt around each of the pulleys the same way it came out. When you have the belt in place, tighten the tensioner pulley with a socket wrench.

Step 5--Tighten the adjustment locking bolt and the pivot bolt with a socket wrench, and then look over the engine to check that everything is back in place.

Step 6--Turn the vehicle engine on and watch it for a few minutes to verify that everything is operating properly, then turn the engine off.

Installation of a timing belt that loosened during removal of alternator for '05 Toyota Camry LE

Your timing belt has nothing to do with the alternator. You must mean your fan belt do you? The serpentine belt that you loosened to change the alternator? There should be a directional sticker under your hood somewhere, to show you how to put it back on. If not, just put ribs to ribs, and flats to flats, and work your way around.
