Have you chk. the starter switch on the steering colume under dash? Or is starter drive kicking in but not engaging teeth in flexplate? If its not engaging teeth on flexplate starter needs to be shimmed, or if its missing the teeth altogether on flexplate or bearly catching the teeth, top of starter nose wear it bolts up needs to be filed down to engage the teeth on flexplate.

Replaced battery cables on my 1998 Ford Expedition. Now when I turn the ignition the starter enguages then emediatly disenguages, like there is a load on it other than turning over the motor. Was star

You said you replaced the battery cables, how come? Problems getting car started? might be a bad starter, not cables... if battery is good, cables are new, may be starter solenoid malfunction... the solenoid tells the starter gear to engage the flywheel, then release the flywheel once the engine rotates fast enough (assuming you let go of the key once engine gets going :)... or you could even have a worn ignition switch or faulty wire behind the switch (not so likely)

Turn key five or six times nothing then it fires up no problem sometimes you get in it starts up first turn of the key the ignitions not loose

Hello! There are several know causes for this fault...# 1...As you face the engine...On the front drivers side is the battery distribution block...The ground connection on the fender is not touching bare metal...Disconnect, sand area replace connection...# 2 tighten battery connections on the distribution block...# 3 (and for your sake I hope this isn't the problem) The flex plate...The flex plate is what connects the engine to the automatic transmission...It has a toothed ring on the outer edge for the starter motor to engage...They are known to break, crack or loose teeth...Take the vehicle to an authorized service center to have the flex plate examined...An inspection plate can be removed to view the flex plate...

94 corvette sticky starter

you havent said if the started sticks and wont enguage or it enguages and sticks enguaged once started. In either case it sounds like your starter is going to need to be replaced but check two things... make sure your battery voltage is good and check the teeth on the flywheel to nake sure they are in good condition. You nay also have to shim the starter in sme cases to achive the correct clearance. Good luck!

2007 grand caravan ignition goes on, all lights and stereo work, but when I turn the key to start it, all it does is click and the gauge needles start spinning around. What could be wrong?

Couple of things to look at. Is the battery ok. Have the battery tested to check its condition. Low battery voltage will most definatly cause this problem. If the battery checks ok then check the connections to it, they must be clean and tight. If the above two items are good then you may have a starter problem. The click would be the starter solenoid enguaging but the starter wont spin. Best guess based on your complaint is the battery or connections to it! Good luck!

I am trying to remove the ignition switch from a 1976 Chevy PU

This plate is the steering lock plate. It has a lock ring on the shaft but is under very heavy spring pressure which must be compressed in order to remove and re-install. There is a special tool that compresses this spring. It mounts on the steering shaft threads and pushes on the plate. It is quite difficult without but can be done with two persons as one presses and the other removes the lock ring...good luck

bad ground wire on battery,if everything dims in vehical while turning ignition and I mean from bright to almost nothing thats what is wrong,if not some have a small fusible link to solenoid that blows or gets disconnected or corroded.
your ground wire will look fine but maybe have broke or corroded connection inside or on ends, had same problem with more than one vehical.easy check use a jumper cable from negative on battery to alternator bracket and give it a whirl.
