Question about 2002 Ford Ranger Regular Cab

3.0L tranny wont properly mount to motor

I have just taken out the motor, blew up, and am attempting to put it all back together. I am able to get the tranny close to the motor but will not go together politely. I had at one point said that heck with it and put it all back together. this has casused the motor not want to turn over and wont even turn over by hand.

just out of curiosity, i put washers between the tranny and motor, i can now turn the motor over by hand. Why cant the tranny go together the way it should? this is stopping the whole process of gettingt his back on the road...

this is not the 3 stage step issue. i have made sure that has been done, still nothing.

  • jeremy_lakos Apr 27, 2009

i have confirmed the torque converter is all the way in. i have made sure the shim is in place. That is what brings me to fixya.

Did you make sure the torq converter was all the way into the trans. pump? sounds to me it was not, and i hope for your sake you did not break the ears on the pump. Unbolt the trans. unbolt the torqconverter from the flexplate and spin the converter untill it drops back in the pump keep spinning until it drops in a good inch and then you got it.

I don't know what you mean by a 3 stage step issue, but i do know if the torq converter is not all the way into the pump it will not bolt up. and you telling me you have to shimm between the trans and motor tells me the troq is not all the way in the pump. It will drop in kind of like twice, the only other thing it could be is the wrong flywheel.

Where can I get a blow up of all the front engine brackets ,braces and bolts to put back together a 89 chevy k1500 5.7l

These are front motor mounts. The rear motor mount just shows the tranny mounted to cross-member. I'm afraid the motor mounts are all I have.

I blew the engine a 2002 Dodge 3500 360. Will a 2001 engine from a 1500 truck-also a 360 5.9 liter be used as a replacement? What about the transmission? Will that engine be ok with my tranny?

OK, this is my suggestion. Since the 2002 have the engine blown up, and it have to be taken out, take out also the tranny, and remove the cover from the transmission, and try to fit it in the 2001 engine. If it fit, there is your answer, yes. Now, also make sure that the motor mounts also fit, that are align with the 2001 engine.
But I think it should fit.

2002 dodge neon wont start after changing mid motor mount.

Double check that you didn't unplug something in the mount change or a ground wire left off a bolt on the mount.

1998 pontiac GP makes thuunk when put in reverse

It is the rear motor mount. If there is a load on the motor it will make the noise and if there isnt any loud on it it wont make it. They should put a new one on it and maybe they could sell the car faster. There is three motor mounts on this car , one on the frount of the motor and one near the fan and another on the trans in back of the motor.

How do you change the clutch assembly for a 1998 plymouth breeze

Pull the cv axles, starter disconnect all likages to the tranny, remove all bellhousing bolts, Then support the tranny, remove all tranny mounts, lower and separate. Be ready to take BATH as the Thick Gooey tranny fluid WILL come out where the axles go. You could drain the tranny first step. Supprt the engine from above so not to tear up motor mounts. Then you can start to do the Clutch. If you have never done this before. Count on a weekend. And don't take 2 weeks to do it. Have the Flywheel resurfaced before putting back together. Do it once and do it right. Replace the rear main seal and Transmission seals while you have it apart. Trust me on this.

1988 f350 oil pan installation ,i have the motor jacked as high as it will go, pan will not clear the oil pump in the front of motor. Do i have to take intake off to get more clearance? remove oil pump?...

You may have to attempt to jack the tranny up somemore and get it even though it really wont give you much more room.I have never removed intake to do one although, being on the ground and not a lift changes things.Removeing transmission will give you clearance and will let you clean area better for when you put it back together.

I had the starter fixed in my 1996 Jetta,, but it wont go back in.. whats the problem? The motor seemed to drop some , when I took out the starter,, now it just wont fit back in,

I'm assuming you have a standard transmission then, the starter mounts from the front of the engine its actually part of the front motor mount as well. When you took this out you should have had a jack stand under the engine block to support it during the starter removal. You will now have to lift the engine back to its proper position before attempting the starter reinstall. Be careful to put the three bolts back in the same place as they are different lengths and only go in one spot. May be a dumb sounding question but I have to ask it, did the place where you had the starter rebuilt give you the wrong starter ? ? I've had this happen to me before.
Good luck !
