the Anti-lock Braking System motor. it really shouldn't be running unless a you have a wheel slip while braking - like in snow or ice.

Why do i hear a dinging sound when apply brakes on 1996 dodge grand caravan ??

Noise is caused by brakes wearing. Either brakes shoes are worn, disc is out of round. Sound you hear is metal rubbing on metal, never a good sound. Contact auto repair or brake shop for repairs immediately

1998 Camry Reverse noises

this really sounds like a broken motor mount / trans mount. An easy way to check is have someone sit in the car and shift into reverse, then to neutral, then to drive. Have your "assistant" do this repeatedly with the hood up, parking brake ON and foot FIRMLY applying the brakes while you watch the motor move. if you can see a big difference in "jump" between reverse and drive, that is a bad mount. The motor will lift or "jump" higher on the broken mount side. if your really not sure then try a gentle power brake in each direction.

Shift lever stuck in park

The park is locked out with a pin that is pulled back by small electric solenoid plunger, the solenoid is powered when you step on the brake pedal, so it the brake lights are not working then the shifter will not release from park. The idea here is of course to have the brakes applied before the car is put in "Drive", it is called the Park lock safety feature by Ford. You should be able to override this by turning the ignition switch to just short of the on/run position (between off and run) while jiggling the shift lever.
